Enabling E-Mail SignaturesLocate this document in the navigation structure


To enable this feature, you must have permissions to assign the appropriate actions to roles. For example, to assign users to a role, you must have the rights to manage both users and roles. More information: Managing Users, Groups, and Roles .


Use this procedure to enable users to manage corporate and personalized e-mail signatures. When this feature is enabled, the system automatically appends a signature with a new e-mail message. The signatures are created and modified in a simple HTML editor, allowing the user to format the signature (for example, bold, italic, bullets, and so on). When you save the e-mail signature that you have modified, it is stored as UME attributes in HTML format and in plain text format. The storing of the signature as a UME attribute in HTML format, and the conversion to plain text take place simultaneously. More information: Logical Attributes .


  1. Start identity management. More information: Identity Management .
  2. Assign UME actions for e-mail signature to roles that you want to support e-mail signatures. More information: Assigning Principals to Roles or Groups .

    The following table describes the actions relevant for e-mail signatures.




    Provides permissions for users to manage the content of the corporate signature and the personalized signatures of all users.


    By default, the Signature_Administration action is assigned to the standard UME role: Administrator .


    Provides permissions for users to create, view, and modify the content of their own personalized signatures.


    Provides permissions for users to view their own personalized signature.


    Provides permissions for users to view the content of the corporate signature and the personalized signatures of all users.

  3. Optional: You can create your own roles for e-mail signatures or you can use the standard UME roles to assign the UME actions described above. More information: Standard UME Roles .
  4. Assign the roles to groups or users for which you want to enable e-mail signatures.

    To enable all users to manage their own personalized signatures, assign the role to the group Everyone .
