Setting Up Categories for Referencing Data

Use

The data which should be referenced from a product is specified at category level, enabling you to flexibly define the scope of the data that should be referenced.

Prerequisites

You have set up your categories and hierarchies appropriately. The categories for the product and object must belong to the same hierarchy, as the same set types can only be used within one hierarchy.

Features

Using reference products involves assigning the relevant set types and relationship types to both the product categories and object categories involved. You do this on the Product Hierarch y page:

  • You assign the product categories used for the reference products the relevant set types and relationship types. These are the set types and relationship types from which you want to reference the product data.

  • You assign the object categories the relevant set types and relationship types. To do this, you do the following:

    • For set types, you set the Referenced indicator for the relevant set types. This enables the data to be referenced from the same set type assigned to the reference product. The Referenced indicator is only available if the category is assigned an object family. The example below shows how the product category and object category are set up so that certain data can be referenced:

  • For relationship types, you enter the relevant relationship types in the assignment block Referenced Relationship Types Displayed in Objects . Only certain relationship types can be referenced.

Notes

Texts consist of the following set types:

  • COMM_PR_LGTEXT (Texts)

  • COMM_PR_LGTEXT1 (Basic Texts)

  • COMM_PR_LGTEXT2 (Sales Texts)

Although texts are formally set types, they are handled in text management using the following text objects:

Set Type

Text Object

COMM_PR_LGTEXT

PRODUCT + PROD_SALES

COMM_PR_LGTEXT1

PRODUCT

COMM_PR_LGTEXT2

PROD_SALES

When text set types are designated as referenced, the corresponding text objects are considered to be referenced and cannot be maintained for the object:

  • COMM_PR_LGTEXT is referenced. No further texts can be maintained for the object.

  • COMM_PR_LGTEXT1 is referenced. Organization-independent texts cannot be maintained for the object.

  • COMM_PR_LGTEXT2 is referenced. Sales texts cannot be maintained for the object.

Sales Data

Sales data consists of the following set types:

  • CRMM_PR_SALESA

  • CRMM_PR_SALESG

When referencing sales data, only those distribution chains assigned to the reference product and for which data is maintained are displayed for the object.

Other distribution-chain-specific set types which are not referenced, for example customer-defined set types, can still be maintained for the object within these distribution chains.

Sales data includes an item category group. When referencing sales data, it is not the item category group of the reference product that is referenced, but the entry maintained specifically for objects in the field Object Item Category Group of the reference product.

Permitted Object CategoriesSet Type (PRREF)

The set type PRREF ( Permitted Object Categories ) can be used for checking which object categories are allowed. For more information, see Using Set Type PRREF for Checks .

The Permitted Object Categories set type also contains a Default Category field. The category specified as a default is assigned to an object when it is created from a product. This is currently only used in the Internet Customer Self-Service.
