Function documentationProduct Purpose and Product Classification

The product purpose supports different business uses for products in provider orders and master agreements. This helps to prevent products in provider orders and contracts being used incorrectly for the different possible purposes.

Prerequisites

You must activate the business function Integration of SAP CC and SAP CI with the Provider Order (CRM_PROVORDERINT_2).

Features

During maintenance of provider orders and master agreements, the system checks whether the purpose of an added product and the purpose of the transaction are compatible. If the purpose is not compatible, the system reports an error and the transaction cannot be executed. The following product purposes are supported:

  • Standard Product

A standard product is used in provider orders or contracts. Products are also used as standard products if no definition has been made for a certain product category. Standard products cannot be used in revenue distribution contracts or master agreements to redefine products so they are suitable for customer-specific requirements.

  • Master Agreement Product

Master agreement products can only be used in provider orders when the provider order is created with reference to a master agreement. You cannot use master agreement products directly in provider orders without referring to a master agreement item that uses the same product.

  • Revenue Distribution Product

Revenue sharing products define revenue distribution rules for third-party companies or partners if customers buy or consume services that are provided by these partners. Revenue distribution products can only be used in provider orders for partner agreements.

  • Sharing Product

Sharing products are fees for the usage of counter sharing for several provider orders with reference to a single sharing contract. Sharing products can only be used in sharing orders or contracts.

Activities

To define products that are used for different purposes, you must define product categories (classification) and assign the product purpose. You define product categories in Customizing forCustomer Relationship Management under Start of the navigation path Cross-Industry Functions Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step Products Next navigation step Define Settings for Product Categories End of the navigation path.

All products in a product category with a product purpose inherit this purpose. A product can be assigned to several categories but can also have a single purpose only. Therefore, products cannot be assigned to categories with different product purposes. Different product categories are already available for different product purposes.

You can also assign product purposes to provider transaction types in Customizing forCustomer Relationship Management under Start of the navigation path Cross-Industry Functions Next navigation step Provider Order and Contract Management Next navigation step Transactions Next navigation step Define Settings for Transaction Types End of the navigation path.
