 Event History

Use

The event history records the events in which the object has been involved. When an object is assigned to business documents, such as service orders or sales orders within SAP CRM, or externally such as SAP ECC, this results in an event being created, which is automatically updated using the object integration framework (OITF).

During the course of processing a document in which the object is used, other events might be created automatically. In addition to this, events can also be created manually in object maintenance. The entire range of events forms the event history.

Prerequisites

You have made the settings required for the event history in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management , by choosing Start of the navigation path Master Data Next navigation step Products Next navigation step Objects Next navigation step Event History End of the navigation path :

  • You define manual events as “manual” in the Customizing activity Define Event Types .

  • You link manual events to an object type and set the appropriate technical parameters in the Customizing activity Define Interpretation of Links and Extracts .

Features

There are three channels for the event history:

  • The object is part of a business transaction document, with updates from the document being performed automatically by the object integration framework (OITF). An object can be assigned to a document as follows:

    • As a reference object at header or item level

    • As an item or subitem

    • In service contracts as part of the list of objects covered by the service contract

  • Manually captured events, such as in a call center.

  • Events from an external system, such as an ERP system, in which the purchase orders and stock movements for a vehicle are recorded.

Example:

The event history is available as a separate assignment block on the Object overview page, with the edit page providing additional event details and enabling manual events to be created. Events cannot be changed once they have been saved.

The event history provides the following information:

  • Event type and description

An event type such as "Added to Service Process":

    • For automatic events, the description is information about the content of the document, such as the description of the service order to which the object was added. For automatic events occurring in an external system, an event history data extract is displayed.

    • For events created manually, the description field contains a text describing the event.

  • Transaction type

The transaction type is displayed for events created internally in CRM business transactions. A transaction type is not, however, displayed for external events.

  • Transaction ID

This is the document ID if the object is assigned at header level within a CRM or ERP business transaction. Where the object is assigned at item level within a CRM business transaction (internal events only), this is a combination of document ID and item number. A hyperlink is available for navigation.

  • Date and time when the event occurred, and by whom it was created.
