Function documentationSpecifics of High-Volume Campaign Execution

High-volume campaign execution is a lean form of execution that allows you to increase campaign throughput significantly. Using this process enables you to carry out parallel processing for your target groups and reach a much higher volume of recipients with your campaigns.

Typical uses are promotional campaigns, newsletters, and product announcements.

Prerequisites

To use this function, you must activate the business function High-Volume Marketing (CRM_MKT_HVS).

To use this function, you must activate the business function Marketing Permission (CRM_MKT_PERMISSION).

Note Note

Only e-mail and file export are supported in high volume campaigns.

End of the note.

Features

  • We have two new communication channels for carrying out high-volume campaign execution:

    • High-volume file export

A dedicated UI is available for file export. You insert attributes in a table. This UI replaces the integrated text editor and word processor for both high-volume file export and low-volume file export.

    • High-volume e-mail

  • You can set the language for the channel directly under General Data if the language in which you wish to address your target groups has not been defined already in the business partner master data. The language you set here is the one taken if a corresponding mail form template exists in this language. Otherwise the default language for the campaign is taken. You can use the correspondence language of your business partner for all channels.

  • You can assign marketing prospects as well as business partners. Marketing prospects are consumers in the system that are imported via External List Management from lists received from data providers, for example. The marketing contacts in that list are not yet business partners in the system, but can already be used for segmentation and later on for campaign execution. Note that discounts are not applicable for marketing prospects.

  • High-volume campaign execution also works with lean business partners, that is, partners with a reduced set of attributes, to speed up performance. The BAdI CRM_MKTHV_LBP enables you to add additional attributes to your business partners if required.

  • You can use campaign automation to plan and execute campaigns that start with high-volume execution and progress to low-volume execution, for example, to first reach a maximum size of audience, and then to focus on those accounts and marketing prospects who respond positively. Note that the opposite is not possible; you cannot progress from low-volume execution to high-volume execution.

  • When you start a campaign, the system checks whether attributes in the mail form are available in business partners and marketing prospects in target groups.

  • After campaign execution has been triggered, you see the Contact Statistics high-volume-specific assignment block. This shows the total number of outbound contacts, both planned and successful. Note that the planned outbounds here are not always exactly equal to target group size. The planned outbounds on the contact assignment block correspond to the actual number of e-mails that are to be sent out and not the target group size, since some business partners may be flagged with Do not contact. Checks can also be made as to when a target group was last updated to see if there are any changes that may need to be considered. See the BAdI: Define Outbounds for High-Volume Campaign Execution for more information.

This assignment block also shows the number of bounces, that is, the number of campaigns that were not successful and were bounced back. You need the function module CRM_MKTHV_UPLOAD_BOUNCES to upload all bounced mails from the server back into the system. The report CRM_MKTHV_BOUNCE_PROCESS can then be used to display the results in this assignment block. The soft bounces show purely the statistical results whereas the hard bounce takes into account those business partners that were flagged with Do Not Contact. You can also track any links that might have been included in your mail forms and how often these links were clicked on.

  • After a campaign has been executed, you can go to the Segments assignment block and click the job status to go directly to the Execution Monitor, where you can track your contacts and the progress of your campaign in more detail. The Execution Monitor displays the status of your contacts and a message log. It also allows you to do a rerun, if required. The contact tracking table has an entry every time campaign execution takes place although outbound contact tracking is not supported.

  • High-volume campaign execution does not use the Marketing Contact List report because this is only relevant for individual business partners. In this case, only the Marketing Contact Summary is relevant.

  • As a result of campaign execution, a package of files is put onto a server and passed to an external provider of letter or e-mail services via a predefined SMTP server. This package includes mail form templates and files/attachments, metadata info, and personalization data contained in separate CSV and XML control files. You can navigate directly from the campaign to the file server or Web server where the e-mail or file export files are stored. For more information, see Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step Campaign Execution Next navigation step Enable Access to Files from Campaign Execution End of the navigation path.
