External Data Transfer 

Purpose

Use this component if you wish to transfer data from a legacy or previous/feeder system to the SAP system by means of the direct input procedure.

This function can be used in the following components:

·        Loans Management (CML)

·        SAP Business Partner for Financial Services

·        Executive Information System (EIS)

·        Profitability Analysis (CO-PA)

·        Bank Customer Accounts (BCA)

·        Profitability Analysis and Risk Analysis in SAP Banking

·        Industry Solution for Insurance

·        Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable (FI-CA)

Features

The system imports and converts the data from a sequential input file that you have created from the data of your legacy or previous/feeder systems. Before the data is saved in the data pool in the SAP system, the system carries out various checks. If errors occur, you can correct them by using the logs and other functions.

Some components contain a function that you can use to copy large amounts of data. Using this function, you can split the input files into smaller files that can then be transferred in parallel.

An example program is also supplied with some components. You can use this as a template for your own program. This enables you to use the Remote Function Call to transfer data from your legacy system "near-time".

You can use the test data editor to create an input file for test purposes only.

Constraints

The SAP system does not select the data from the source systems, or the create the sequential input file.

You can transfer only the data for which the SAP system contains SAP interfaces. You can find more information about transfer categories in the Implementation Guide (IMG) of the respective component. Note that in some components (for example, CO-PA) there is only one transfer category. As a result, it is not visible to the user.

You cannot use the direct input method in the external data transfer tool to transfer data for which the system does not contain a transfer category. To transfer this data, use the batch input method.
