Database Trace 

The tools user menu (OLTP/liveCache) contains, among other things, the database trace tool.

The database trace only adversely affects performance in liveCache database instances; in other database instances, you can use the database trace even in normal operation.

Procedure

...

       1.      Open the Database Assistant (transaction DB50) or the liveCache Assistant (transaction LC10).

       2.      Choose Tools ® Database Trace.

Switch Trace on/off

Choose the required trace component and then select Activate Trace to switch on the trace.

You can activate more trace components while the trace is running by selecting them and choosing Activate Trace again.

Choose the required trace component and then select Activate Trace (Level) to switch on the trace in a particular level. You have the option to change the default value for the trace level. The higher the trace level, the greater amount of detail is provided in the information collected by the database trace.

Choose Deactivate Trace to switch off the trace. This deactivates any trace components that are selected.

Choose Initialize Trace to initialize the trace. Only the database actions are logged after the initialization.

Setting Additional Options

You can specify the respective procedures for switching on/off the database trace.

·        Switch on Trace
If the database trace should be written for all database sessions, you select for all sessions.
If the database trace should be written for a particular database session, you select for the session with number only and then enter the session number

·        Switch off Trace
If you want to switch off the database trace manually, you selectmanually only.
If you want the database trace to switch off automatically when a particular error occurs, select automatically with an error code and then enter the database error code.

Analyzing and Displaying a Trace

To analyze the trace, first choose Flush Trace Puffer. The information still remaining in the buffer is written in the trace, thereby updating it.

Choose Analyze Trace. Back up the database trace you have displayed by choosing Save to Local File. This stops it from being overwritten by the next trace analysis.

To view a trace again, choose Display Trace.
