onsmsync with ON-Bar

Use

ON-Bar records backup and restore details in the:

sysutils database for a warm restore

ixbar emergency boot file for a cold restore

Since these might grow very large over time, Informix offers the onsmsync tool to delete old backup and restore details or to regenerate a corrupt emergency boot file.

Prerequisites

You can use onsmsync when the database server is in online or quiescent mode.

Features

The onsmsync command synchronizes the sysutils database, the storage manager, and the ixbar emergency boot file.

onsmsync :

Adds to sysutils backup history that is in ixbar but is missing from sysutils

Removes from sysutils backups that the storage manager has expired. For more information on backup expiry, see the BAR_HISTORY configuration parameter.

If you specify an expiration policy, removes the following from sysutils and the storage manager:

Restores, whole-system restores, fake backups, and failed backups or restores
Backups, based on the number of generations, retention date, or interval

Expires backup entries for old logical logs

Regenerates ixbar

Activities

You can use onsmsync to:

Expire old ON-Bar backup objects

Have the storage manager tell ON-Bar that a backup object has expired, so that ON-Bar does not try to restore backups that are no longer available

Delete unwanted backup objects, so preventing unlimited growth in sysutils and ixbar

Regenerate a corrupt ixbar
