Background documentation Role Concept for Rooms Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

The role concept for rooms and room parts serves the following purposes:

·        Permission for portal users to work with rooms (across rooms)

By assigning portal roles to portal users, you can give the users permission for the following activities:

¡        Maintenance of templates for rooms and room parts

¡        Room creation

¡        Entering (using) rooms

·        Control of access for portal users to pages in the rooms (room-specific)

Within a room, registered portal users (room members) are given permission to access pages in the room by means of room roles. A room role is valid only in the relevant room. A room member can have more than one room role.

The graphic below illustrates the relationship between portal roles and room roles. This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The user with the Content Administration portal role defines the template for creating rooms. In the template, he or she defines which room roles are possible in the room and which pages each room role can access.

To create rooms, a user requires the corresponding portal role. The user that creates a room is automatically given permission to register members in the room and assign room roles to them.

To use rooms, portal users require the Collaboration portal role. However, you can provide public pages in a room that are accessible for all portal users without specific permission.
