You can use RFID-enabled kanban to integrate the kanban replenishment procedure in an external system such as SAP ERP with RFID technology. By using RFID tags and devices to monitor the movements and establish the status of kanban containers, standalone RFID-enabled kanban enhances the visibility of your kanban process, helps to prevent human errors such as lost containers, and results in a more accurate overview of your stock.

Note Note

For information about how the kanban procedure works in SAP ERP see the SAP Library at http://help.sap.com under   SAP Solutions   SAP ERP   SAP ERP Central Component   SAP ERP Central Component   Logistics   Production Planning and Control   PP Kanban  .

End of the note.

Prerequisites

  • You are assigned the authorization object /AIN/KBN in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure.

  • You have mapped application data to logical ports.

You assign application-specific functions and business systems to logical ports so that SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure can communicate with other systems. For more information, see Customizing for Auto-ID Infrastructure under    Basic Settings   Integration Settings   Map Application Data to Logical Port  .

  • You have assigned plants in SAP ERP to locations in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure.

You map locations in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure to plants in SAP ERP on the SAP Easy Access screen by choose   Auto-ID Infrastructure   Master Data   ID Settings  . You always use encoding type 0LOC.

  • You have run the master data update to get master data for kanban containers from SAP ERP when SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure is deployed as an add-on for SAP NetWeaver in a box separate from SAP ERP.

  • You have run the Kanban ID Create when SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure is deployed as an add-on for SAP ERP.

Features

The following features are available in RFID-enabled kanban:

  • SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure can assign IDs to kanban containers in one of two possible ways:

    • You display a list of kanbans and assign them manually.

    • You assign a kanban to a device group and the tag IDs that are read subsequently at that device group are automatically assigned to the kanban.

  • You can print tags from SAP ERP, assign preprinted tags to kanban containers in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure, or write tags only in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure only.

  • SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure can perform kanban status updates.

You can create conditions to define the status of a kanban, which is determined by a combination of device group, command, and the action being performed. You create these conditions in Customizing under   Auto-ID Infrastructure   Activities, Conditions, Rules, and Message Types   Define Conditions for Fixed Device Messages.

When an RFID device detects a kanban, the device updates the kanban status according to the settings you have made in status mapping. SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure returns the updated status to SAP ERP. Alternatively, and only when SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure is deployed as an add-on for SAP NetWeaver in a box separate from SAP ERP, you can manually update the status on the SAP Easy Accessscreen under   Auto-ID Infrastructure   RFID-Enabled Kanban   Tools   Change Kanban Status Manually  .

  • SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure checks the following criteria for each kanban before it performs a status change and sends the update to SAP ERP:

    • The control cycle in status mapping matches the control cycle of the kanban.

    • The SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure location in status mapping matches the SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure location of the kanban.

    • The supply area in status mapping matches the kanban supply area.

    • The unloading point in status mapping matches the kanban unloading point.

    • The blocking indicator usage in status mapping matches the blocking indicator status of the kanban.
