Function documentation Creation and Maintenance of Number Ranges  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use this function to define number ranges if you want to distribute serial numbers for a number range object, that is a specific ID such as a GTIN and an encoding type.

Prerequisites

You have made the settings for number range object generation in Customizing for Auto-ID Infrastructure by choosing Basic Settings ® ID Settings ® Maintain ID Types.

Features

The following features are available for managing number ranges in SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (SAP AII):

      Creation

You can define a range of numbers for a specific number range object. If you want to use a number range immediately, you set it to Active. It is only possible to have one active number range per number range object at any one time. You must maintain a sequence number if you create multiple number ranges for one number range object type, so that the system knows the sequence in which it is to use the number ranges.

      Maintenance

You can edit a number range, for example if you want to increase the size of the interval or if you want to set the status of a number range to Active.

      Deletion

You can only delete inactive number ranges with a current number of 0.

Activities

You can access all features for number range administration on the SAP Easy Access screen under Auto-ID Infrastructure ® Master Data ® Number Ranges ® Number Range Administration.
