Use

You create and manage polls in the Quick Poll Administration iView. You provide the polls you create to other portal users. They appear in the Quick Poll iView.

Status of Polls

When you create a poll it is not immediately visible for portal users: It still has the status Planned. In the list of polls you can see which status the polls currently have. You have to start polls manually or using the Schedule function in order that portal users can see them.

A poll can have the following statuses:

Status

Meaning

Planned

When you create a poll, it receives the status Planned. To make the poll visible for portal users, you have to start the poll.

Ongoing

The current poll is the one that is visible to all portal users. In each campaign, only one poll can be ongoing in the portal at any one time.

Closed

No more votes can be cast if a poll is closed.

Polls and Campaigns

Each poll that you create is assigned to a campaign. A campaign is an order criterion for polls.

The assignment of campaigns happens either automatically in the background or you have to actively assign a poll to a campaign.

How you do this depends on how your system administrator has configured the Quick Poll Administration iView for you. There are two scenarios:

As a power user, you are responsible for a particular campaign. The system automatically assigns all polls that you create to this campaign without you having to specify the campaign name. In this case, you see in the Quick Poll Administration iView only the polls that belong to your campaign.

As a power user, you are responsible for all campaigns. In this case, you see all available campaigns and the associated polls. You can also create new campaigns. You can freely assign the name of a campaign. You create your polls within the campaign.

Display an HTML Page If There Is no Active Quick Poll

If no quick polls are currently active for a campaign, you can display an HTML page in the Quick Poll iView. For example, you can use a text editor to create a page containing information on a current topic.

The path and ID (file name) for HTML files are defined by an administrator in the iView properties. To display an HTML page in the Quick Poll iView, ask your administrator for the path and ID, and copy the HTML file to this path.

Prerequisites

The iView for administration for quick polls is assigned to your portal user.

Procedure

The following activities are available:

...

      Create polls.

See: Creating Polls

      Start and end polls.

When you start a poll, the question being asked is displayed in the Quick Poll iView, and the users can vote. When you end a poll, no more votes can be cast. However, the results of the poll can still be displayed in the Quick Poll iView.

Caution

You can only start a poll if it has the status Planned.

The following procedures exist for starting and ending polls:

       Automatic start by schedule

You can use the Scheduler to define the start and end times for a poll.

       Manual start

You can select a poll in the overview list and start or end it manually.

      Delete polls.

You can delete the following data:

       User-related data

When a poll is running, the system stores information on which users have already voted and how they voted. This is to prevent a user from voting more than once. The Quick Poll iView also displays the answer that the user in question chose.

You can delete this data as soon as a poll is closed. On the Schedule tab page, activate Housekeeping and set a date and time for the deletion process. The system deletes all user-related data, and only retains the overall sum of votes for each answer. The results of the poll can still be displayed.

       Poll results

You can select the polls that are no longer needed in the polls list, and then delete them. This also deletes the results of the poll.
