Number
Range
A range of numbers that you can use to generate serialized numbers during tag commissioning.
You define number ranges per number range object, a combination of number range object type, ID and encoding type for which you can define multiple number ranges.
The following number range object types are available in the standard system:
● EID_SERIALIZED (for iUID Construct 1 and EPC encoding type DOD-96)
This number range object type tracks the next available serial number for an ID based on tag encoding types CNSTREID (iUID construct 1) or DOD-96. The uniqueness of IDs based on these encoding types is ensured by serializing within a specific issuing agency and company prefix (enterprise identifier).
● PART_NUM_SERIALIZED (for iUID Construct 2)
This number range object type tracks the next available serial number for an ID based on tag encoding type CNSTR2PART (iUID construct 2). The uniqueness of IDs based on this encoding type is ensured by serializing within the original part number and then adding an issuing agency and company prefix (enterprise identifier) to the serialized IDs.
● GIAI (for GIAI)
The GIAI number range object tracks the next available serial number for an ID based on tag encoding type GIAI-64, GIAI-96, or GIAI-202. A GIAI ensures the uniqueness of the ID derived from a given company prefix.
● GRAI (for GRAI)
The GRAI number range object tracks the next available serial number for an ID based on tag encoding type GRAI-64, GRAI-96, or GRAI-170.
● GTIN (for GTIN)
The GTIN number range object tracks the next available serial number for an ID based on tag encoding type SGTIN-64, SGTIN-96, or SGTIN-198.
● SSCC (for SSCC)
The SSCC number range object tracks the next available serial number for an ID based on tag encoding type SSCC-64 or SSCC-96. An SSCC ensures the uniqueness of an ID derived from a specific company prefix.
You can manage number ranges using standalone number range administration or using central number range administration.

Central number range administration is only possible if you have implemented an SAP object event repository.
For more information about creating and maintaining number ranges, see Creation and Maintenance of Number Ranges.
You can define your own number range object types in Customizing for Auto-ID Infrastructure under Basic Settings ® ID Settings ® Maintain ID Types.
