This component reliably supports you in keeping your master data (for example, the data in charts of accounts) consistent even when your system landscape is complex and distributed across various locations. Master Data Governance (MDG) enables you to adjust your master data quickly to reflect legal changes and respond flexibly to new requirements (for example, in relation to the structure or degree of detail of a chart of accounts) and to business transactions such as takeovers of other companies. Master Data Governance also enables you to track changes made to master data.

Implementation Considerations

You have installed the software component SAP Business Suite Foundation (SAP_BS_FND 702).

To use MDG, you must first configure the required Customizing settings under   Cross-Application Components   Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications   Master Data Governance  .

For information about the Security Guide for the following applications of Master Data Governance, see the following:

For more information about the Security Guide for SAP ERP Central Component, see SAP Library for SAP ERP Central Component on the SAP Help Portal under   http://help.sap.com   SAP ERP Enhancement Packages   SAP ERP Security Guide  .

Integration

The following business packages are available for Master Data Governance:

  • Business Package for Financial MDM 1.51

  • Business Package for Material Governance 1.50

  • Business Package for Master Data Governance for Supplier 1.50

Features

The functions of Master Data Governance can be broken down into the following areas:

  • Configuration

To manage your master data with MDG, you need a data model and other Customizing settings. The data model reflects your master data. For more information, see Structure of the Data Model and Database Tables and General Settings.

  • Execution

You manage the master data centrally in the Master Data Governance hub. The following functions are available:

    • Import Master Data

For more information, see Initial Load and File Upload.

    • Process Master Data

You perform the following actions depending on which workflow is selected:

      • Request Change

You request and manage master data changes in a change request. Depending on your settings in Customizing, you need an edition. If a business activity is set up for the desired change, the system can automatically create the change request.

      • Process Master Data

For more information, refer to Master Data Processing.

      • Safeguarding of Data Quality

You can use address checks or duplicate checks or integrate quality management solutions (such as those from SAP BusinessObjects).

      • Approval of Master Data Change (optional)

    • Replication of Master Data Change

You can assign fixed values at design time and runtime by using a value and key mapping. You can replicate master data changes carried out centrally manually or replicate them automatically in the background using the data replication framework (DRF). Filters allow you to configure replication settings flexibly. You can replicate data between the Master Data Governance hub and operational systems by means of enterprise services, IDocs, or file download functions.

For more information, see Value Mapping, Key Mapping, and Data Replication.
