Definition

Configuration of a technical object including all possible part variants.

Use

Some maintenance processes, for example, in the aviation industry, require that the actual configuration of a technical object can be validated at any time. This should ensure that the object has a valid configuration on leaving the maintenance plant. The Configuration Control component allows the comparison of the actual configuration of a technical object with the master parts list, which can, for example, contain all the relevant data of an illustrated parts catalog supplied by a manufacturer for aircraft or engines.

Note

The corresponding part of the master parts list, against which a particular actual configuration is checked, is called the allowed configuration in the SAP system. The allowed configuration is displayed in the configuration control workbench underneath the actual configuration after a configuration check has been performed.

Using a master parts list allows numerous new functions:

·        In the Configuration Control Workbench you can perform an overall configuration check through comparison of the actual configuration with the allowed configuration, to establish the validity of the actual configuration of a technical object before releasing it for operation. For more information, see Overall Configuration Check.

·        In a configuration change, the system can propose valid parts and installation locations for the installation of equipment in a superordinate technical object. You can also check the validity of the parts with a local configuration check.

·        In the installation mode you can display configuration changes and process them from there, if the actual configuration is linked with the master parts list.

Structure

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

The master parts list or the allowed configuration of a technical object is composed of

·        iPPE access nodes

·        iPPE structure nodes

·        iPPE structure node variations

·        Material

Integration

The structure object of the master parts list is the product variant structure in the iPPE workbench; it contains variant configurations and parameter validity, as well as additional master data and additional dependencies.

You maintain the product variant structure for the master parts list in the iPPE workbench. For more information, see Creating a Multi-Level Product Structure and Preparatory Activities for the Configuration Check.

Engineering Change Management

You can use parameter validities for the master parts list. For this, maintain change master records with a parameter and validity areas record. Check the validity parameter for the master parts list in the equipment master record on the Configuration Control tab page. For more information, see Working With Parameter Validity.

Cancel-Part Relationships

You can define a part progression for structure node variants of the master parts list. You can activate the check of the cancel-part relationships for installing equipment. For more information, see Cancel-Part Relationships.

Structure Explosion of the Master Parts List

The structure explosion of the master parts list is performed in the same way as for the explosion simulation of a specific material in the iPPE workbench. For more information, see Configuration Simulation in the Filter.

Note

If you define an individual configuration for a material in the equipment master record, this configuration is valid for all the equipment underneath the equipment concerned for the configuration check.

If you enter parameter validity in the equipment master record, the defined validity values are valid for the respective equipment and all the subordinate equipment for the configuration check.
