Background documentation Archive File Browser

Quickstart

You can use the Archive File Browser (AFB) to display the contents of archive files. You start the Archive File Browser using transaction AS_AFB.

Display Data Object

Expand the navigation tree in the archive file overview until you can see the key for the archive file you want. By double-clicking on the archive file key the first data object for this key is displayed on the tab page Data Object. There you receive an overview of the table entries contained in the data object. You can use the scroll keys between the file overview and display area to navigate to other data objects.

Various Views

To look at the entries for a specific table in more detail, choose an appropriate entry and choose the tab page Table. The tab page Hex Display enables you to display the data in the archive file without additional formatting. This is particularly useful if you are dealing with defective archive files. Nevertheless, this view presupposes an appropriate level of expertise.

Search According to Table Contents

Using the tab page Search you can look for table contents in archive files in sequential order. You are recommended to adopt the following procedure:

Using drag and drop drag the files to be searched in from the overview to the area Files to be Searched.

Define the search criteria by entering a table name and selecting the desired fields.

Enter the values to be looked for.

Start the search with the find button (Start Search) in the upper area of the tab page Search.

When the system finds a data object corresponding to your search criteria, it automatically displays the contents on the tab page Table. In addition the button Cont. Search (Continue Search) is activated, enabling you to continue the search.
