The following graphic illustrates how workflow interacts with applications, using the example of a store goods receipt:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

No unique reference purchase order is found at goods receipt (since more than one open purchase orders exist). Exception processing is triggered.

The exception processing function triggers the correct task required to solve the problem and puts all the fields determined so far in the container.

In workflows, work items are created using tasks, containers, and object categories (in the above example the IDoc for goods movements with which the store goods receipts are transported).

Your system uses organizational plans to assign particular organizational units (for example, positions) to areas of responsibility (various tasks).

YoueYour YYour system uses organizational plan determination and subsequent breakdown of the organizational unit to send work items to the SAPoffice inbox of responsible employee.

The employee processes the work item. Problems are processed online and goods receipts are then posted in the background. Work item status is then set to Complete.
