Use

The comparison quantity is transferred to the recipient to enable them determine whether the same data has been transferred twice by mistake. The comparison quantity is the sum of all quantities already transferred to the recipient during the current period. The quantity to be transferred for a period is the difference between the current quantity and the comparison quantity for the period.

Example

A retailer working with vendor-managed inventory sends the vendor the sales data of an article by EDI. The vendor is the manufacturer of the product. He uses the data to forecast his customer’s future requirements and plan his own production.

The sales figures are transferred once a month. On January 1, a quantity sold of 1000 pieces of article 1 was transferred to the vendor. The January figures are as follows:

On January 31, the new sales figures for January are to be sent.

In the meantime, a total of 1800 pieces of the article has been sold. The most recent figures for January are therefore:

A quantity of 800 is therefore transferred as the additional sales figure for January (quantity sold – comparison quantity = 1800 - 1000 = 800). The quantity transferred is added on to the comparison quantity, leading to the following key figures for January:
