Parallel Processing

Use

You can use parallel processing for collective purchase order generation. If the time frame for generating collective purchase orders is limited, you can usually make better use of system resources and reduce the run time by using parallel processing. Parallel processing can be used at one or more of the following stages:

Selecting issue documents

Summarizing the issue documents into collective purchase orders

Collective purchase order generation

Updating the issue documents

Usually it is the collective purchase order generation stage that requires the longest amount of time therefore you can achieve the greatest effect by using parallel processing here. You can also reduce the main memory requirements for collective purchase order generation (see also Reducing Main Memory Requirements)

Integration

You maintain data for parallel processing in the transaction for collective purchase order generation (WF10) on the tab page Technical parameters.

In order to achieve the optimum settings for parallel processing, you can use the functions for measuring runtime. For more information, see Runtime Measurement.

Prerequisites

If you want to use parallel processing, you need to maintain the master data for parallel processing using transaction W_PARA and the paramters for parallel processing in transaction WF10.

Note

When maintaining the master data with W_PARA you determine among other things the number of packages. Agree this value with your system administration firs, since a value that is too high can overload the system.

Features

Maintain the master data for parallel processing (transaction W_PARA).

For generation in the background, the purchase orders created are displayed in a log.

Error and warning messages are displayed in the application log.

In order to find the optimum settings, you can carry out a Runtime Measurement.

By setting the relevant indicator, you can reduce main memory requirements. For more information, see Reducing Main Memory Requirements.

Activities

To activate parallel processing, proceed as follows:

Activate run time measurement in transaction WF10, to determine the optimum settings (optional).

Establish suitable stages for using parallel processing (for example, when aggregating the issue documents).

Maintain the parallel processing variants (transaction W_PARA).

Enter the parallel processing variants in the technical parameters of collective purchase order generation (transaction WF10).
