Use time-based distribution keys to distribute planning data to periods according to various criteria.

Define the aggregation process you want to use in Customizing for the planning step (assigning planning key figures to the planning step, detailed screen).

Create customer-specific distribution keys in Customizing for manual planning.

You can define distribution keys that are defaulted in manual planning at every level of hierarchy maintenance.

Note the following information, even if you do not define a field for the distribution key in the planning layout:

• If a distribution key is included in the planning layout as a field, overwrite the default value that is taken from the planning hierarchy. Plan values are distributed using the planning hierarchy distribution key if it has not been overwritten.
• If the distribution key is not included in the planning layout as a field, use the distribution key in the planning hierarchy.

Two types of distribution keys exist:

• Distribution keys with planning layouts that use the period field without a fiscal year (3-character periods).
• Distribution keys with planning layouts that use the period field without a fiscal year (7-character periods).

An individual field exists for each distribution key in hierarchy maintenance.

Various standard distribution keys exist in the System, thus allowing you to distribute equally or manually.

In addition to standard distribution keys, you can use relative factors for each period to create customer-specific distribution keys. The entry value is distributed manually to the planning periods in the time level.
