Use

You use dynamic rounding profiles to have the system round off to multiples of a unit of measure and thereby change the unit of measure. Dynamic rounding profiles are highly suited for rounding off to complete logistical unit of measure (such as whole pallets).

Prerequisites

You must define a rounding profile, a rounding rule and a unit of measure group in Customizing. For further information, see Master Data and Customizing for Quantity Optimizing.

Features

You define the sequence of steps performed when the system rounds off dynamically by defining a dynamic rounding profile, a rounding rule and a unit of measure group. Neither dynamic rounding profiles nor profiles for quantity addition and subtraction are taken into account.

A dynamic rounding profile consists of a rounding rule and a rounding method.

The rounding rule consists of units of measure and percentage threshold values. You can create your own rounding rules in Customizing. Each unit of measure is assigned a threshold value at which the system then rounds up or down. The rules for conversion between the different units of measure must first be defined in the article master record.

The rounding method determines the way in which quantities are rounded off. The possible rounding methods are predefined in the system. The following are possible:

The unit of measure group determines which units allowed for the vendor or the recipient of the goods. The units of measure to be used in rounding are derived from the rounding rule and the unit of measures defined for the article. If you wish to round up to a specific unit of measure, the system checks the settings in the rounding profile:

Example

Starting Point

An article can be ordered in cartons, layers or pallets. In purchase orders, the system should round off to the unit of measure best suitable for logistic purposes.

Rounding Rule for Dynamic Rounding Profile

You first define rounding rule 01 for later use in a dynamic rounding profile.

Dynamic Rounding Profiles

In the example, you define the rounding profile 0001 with the following parameters:

Rounding to a multiple of the order/sales unit with a possible change in the unit of measure

Unit of Measure Group

You use unit of measure group 0010 containing the units piece, carton, layer and pallet.

Data in the Article Master

Rounding Profile

You assign the article the rounding profile 0001 in the logistics data of the article master.

Unit of Measure Group

You assign the article the unit of measure group 0010 in the logistics data of the article master.

Units of Measure of the Article

The article has the base unit "piece". You assign the article the following alternative units in the basic data of the article master.

Rounding Procedure for a Quantity of 425 Pieces (Example)

  1. You order 425 pieces of the article.
  2. The system determines the order quantity by checking the criteria in the rounding rule (see above) as follows:
    1. The system checks if a whole pallet can be ordered (i.e. 500 pieces). According to the rounding rule, a pallet can be ordered if it is 90% full (i.e. 450 pieces). A pallet cannot therefore be ordered.
    2. The system checks if layers can be ordered. To cover the quantity required, 5 layers (500 pieces) would have to be ordered. According to the rounding rule, layers can be ordered if it is 70% full (i.e. 70 pieces). At least 470 pieces would therefore have to be ordered, ruling out ordering in layers.
    3. The system checks if cartons can be ordered. To cover the quantity required, 43 cartons (430 pieces) would have to be ordered. According to the rounding rule, cartons can be ordered if it is 50% full (i.e. 5 pieces). At least 425 pieces would have to be ordered, as is here the case.

Result: the order quantity is rounded up to 43 cartons (430 pieces).
