Use

In Excel Integration, Microsoft Excel is used as the interface for your planning data. You can combine the flexible functions of Microsoft Excel and the planning functions of your SAP application to run your planning activities. You can use the Excel interface for entering your data. Your data is then available in the SAP System.

The Excel interface replaces the SAP interface. This allows you to use functions from both Excel and SAP in planning.

Prerequisites

Software

Install the following software to be able to use Excel in planning:

Hardware

To improve system performance, your PC should have a Pentium II Processor and at least 64 MB working memory.

Features

You can create an Excel worksheet that can then be used as a template for your planning session. You can move data, include graphics that relate to the data, create macros, or simply make format changes to text or cells. Use this template worksheet when planning with Excel.

Linking the SAP System and Microsoft Excel

The SAP System contacts Microsoft Excel using OLE (Object Linking and Embedding), an interface in the Microsoft Office programs. This means, therefore, that the same Excel functions can be used with your SAP System as when, for example, Excel is integrated with Microsoft Word.

The link between the Excel worksheet and the SAP planning layout is created by using the position of the data in the Excel worksheet.

The SAP System is informed about the position of planning data in Excel in Customizing. The position of the information cannot be changed in the planning session so that the data is imported correctly. The file name is used to create the link between the fields in the planning layout and the Excel worksheet.

Preparation

To use Microsoft Excel as the interface in your planning session, mark the Excel Integration indicator when you maintain the manual planning variants for your planning layout (Maintain variants).

You can also create an Excel worksheet in Customizing as a template for planning with Microsoft Excel.

For more information on Customizing your SAP System, see Preparing Excel Integration.

Using Planning

When you run planning with Excel integrated in your SAP System, you start planning with a planning layout and an assigned manual planning variant in which Excel is used as the Interface. Use Excel to enter your planning data. This means that you can also use Excel functions: for example, macros, diagrams. The planning functions in your SAP System can also be used simultaneously. For more information about using integrated Excel in planning, see Planning With Excel Integration.
