In order to process a large quantity of data records in a short period of time when carrying out the external data transfer for a particular transfer category, it might make sense to split a large input file into several smaller files. The program automatically creates the necessary number of jobs and evenly distributes them to the application server specified by you. You can then run the transfer and process several of these smaller files at the same time. The jobs will automatically be released by the program and deleted when they are finished.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

You have defined a Transfer variant for the external data transfer. You can find further information under start external data transfer.

Input files are split before the data is actually transferred. Therefore files can only be split if they are in sender format. The field names of the sender structure must correspond to the field names of the receiver structure.

In the case of transfer categories with a header/item structure, only items can be transferred. The fields that uniquely identify the object that is to be transferred must therefore be transferred from the sender structure proposal complete with contents. The names of the object must remain unchanged. If this is not the case, syntax errors may occur. These field names are listed in the IMG documentation on transfer categories.

  1. Choose the appropriate menu path. You land on the screen EDT: Automatic File Splitting.
  2. Enter the name of the transfer program or the transfer category.
  3. Enter the physical or logical name and path of the input file, and the transfer variants.
  4. In the field Number of jobs, specify into how many files your input file should be split.
  5. In addition to the job names which are given by the program when the jobs are defined, you can also specify a Job name extension. This makes it possible for you to search for jobs with that extension in the screen Job Selection (initial screen for job overview).
  6. Specify which application servers the jobs should be allocated to.
  7. Now you can choose different functions which will be carried out according to your specifications.
  1. To carry out the functions, choose Execute.

The functions you selected will be executed one after the other.
