Use

Picking generally takes place with reference to deliveries. The system determines the picking bins by using a material-related stock picking strategy.

Partial quantities (materials or lower-level HUs) are transferred to a picking container such as a cart or container tub. This picking container, in turn, represents a handling unit, the pick handling-unit (HU). Handling units and materials can be picked and packed in one step (pick-and-pack procedure).

It is also possible to repack material from a pick HU into an HU that is assigned to a delivery. In addition, an entire pick HU can be repacked into an HU that is assigned to a delivery (such as a crate that is going to a customer). You can have the pick HUs created automatically when you create a transfer order or you can create them manually and then assign them to a transfer order. You can use several pick HUs for each transfer order. As soon as the pick HUs are assigned to a transfer order, they are numbered consecutively within the transfer order.

Features

The following are examples of the picking options that are available:

Note

When confirming the transfer order, the person who is picking must specify which lower-level HUs or material quantities are to be picked from which HU, since this is not specified by the Warehouse Management system.

Picking for deliveries with handling units basically involves a pick-and-pack scenario. This means that after the transfer order is confirmed, the pick-HU (which is the original HU in the case of a complete stock pick) is always assigned to the delivery. The result is that the delivery is always packed completely after confirmation is complete.

If you use two-step confirmation, any posting changes for the inventory in the pick HU occur in the first confirmation step. Pick quantities and handling units are reported to the delivery in the second confirmation step.

You can pack more materials in the delivery following picking. If new handling units are created during packing, inventory in WM is adjusted in the background.

Handling units that are assigned to the delivery can be moved in the warehouse by using either the Create Transfer Order for Storage Unit or Put Away/Transfer Handling Unit function. It is not possible to pick handling units that are assigned to deliveries. If you post goods issue for deliveries, you delete handling units in WM, regardless of the storage bin the handling units are stored in when the goods issue posting takes place.

Confirmation of transfer orders

Transfer orders can be confirmed in two separate steps: In the first step, the withdrawal of the materials or the lower-level HUs is confirmed by the issuing source bin. In the second step, the completed transport (meaning the arrival and the availability) of the stock is confirmed at the destination bin.

As soon as the withdrawal of the stock has been confirmed, the storage bin is available for new putaways. The stock is available at the destination bin as soon as the arrival of the goods has been confirmed.

With separate confirmation of a transfer order, you ensure that the withdrawal of several handling units from different storage bins can be confirmed in each individual case, and that the transport is confirmed only after this has taken place. In this manner, the source bin is already available for putaway activities, even if the transport has not yet been confirmed.

Differences that occur can only be entered when materials of HUs are withdrawn.

During the zero stock check that is triggered by the system, a remaining quantity is only accepted if the handling unit from which the materials are to be taken:

If the handling unit is nested or contains serial numbers, you must confirm that the bin is empty for the zero stock check that is triggered by the system.

If the handling unit is nested or contains serial numbers, you cannot manually request a zero stock check as you confirm the transfer order.

Additional information, such as serial numbers, must be specified when a partial quantity is withdrawn from materials with serial numbers in an HU.

When you confirm a transfer order for a delivery, the pick-HUs are reported to the delivery, that is, the picking and packing can take place with the HUs in one step (pick-and-pack procedure).

Caution

As soon as the delivery has the status Picking complete, the picking process is complete and can no longer be changed.
