The layout concept is the basis for space management.

The layout concept plans for a store to be assigned to a layout.

This layout consists of layout modules, which represent the shelf in a store that corresponds to a planogram in the shelf management program.

A layout module can contain several layout module versions. Layout module versions have a time-based reference and contain the articles on a shelf. As the shelf management program is a planning instrument, it is necessary to use versions with different validity periods inside the layout modules, as the planning is only supposed to have an effect on the shelf in the future, not immediately. The validity periods of the individual versions within a layout module are unique and cannot overlap. The time-based scheduling of layout modules in versions makes it possible, for example, to build in seasonal variations.

At layout module version level, there is also the special feature of layout module variants. Layout module variants each relate to one specific layout module version and are used to portray regional or even store-specific differences in layout modules. The layout module variants have exactly the same validity period as the version they refer to. They contained newly added articles and articles to be removed, so only a delta of what has changed from the layout module version. This avoids redundant data retention for the articles left in the layout module version.
