Use

The following describes how you can use generic articles in connection with merchandise distribution.

Prerequisites

You can only use generic articles if you implement SAP Retail.

Features

When you use Merchandise Distribution, generic articles are always processed at variant level, as only variants are of importance for logistics processes. The items containing variants in the documents involved (such as collective purchase orders or deliveries) are comparable to items containing single articles.

Allocation Tables

You can create items for generic articles in allocation tables and process the variants in a matrix. For more information, see Allocation: Generic Articles.

Collective Purchase Orders

In a collective purchase order, no items are created for the associated generic article. The following applies to selecting issue document items:

The relevant variant items are adopted in collective purchase orders from warehouse orders and aggregated.

The relevant variant items are adopted in collective purchase orders from sales orders and aggregated. Note that these items are only adopted if they are not contained in a delivery group. You can configure how variant items are combined in delivery groups in Customizing via the item category control parameters for Sales. The matrix display is not available.

Processing of Distribution Data and Generation of Follow-On Documents

In follow-on documents (deliveries or distribution orders), no items are generated for the associated generic article. When you process distribution data (for example, when you adjust or display a distribution) and generate follow-on documents, the matrix display is not available.
