Define Storage
Location Control
Using the assignment table (plant / storage
location -> warehouse number), you can have several
storage locations managed in one
warehouse number . If several storage locations are managed in a
warehouse number, the storage location (as well as other data) must now be
entered in Warehouse Management transactions where, up to now, only the entry
of a
plant was necessary.
In this section, you will find notes on the
procedure.
Example
Below is a list of some possible scenarios in
this area:
- Scenario 1: 1 storage
location for each plant in a warehouse number
For this scenario,
you do not need to configure further Customizing settings for the warehouse
number, other than the assignment of the plant / storage location combination.
In the Warehouse Management transactions, no entries are required in the field
for the storage location since the storage location can always be determined
by the system from the values for the warehouse number and the
plant.
- Scenario 2: Several storage
locations for each plant in a warehouse number
The storage location
shows the actual owner of the stocks. Goods movements between the storage
locations are initiated solely through postings in Inventory Management. For
this scenario, you must assign the respective plant / storage location
combinations for the warehouse number. Further Customizing activities are not
necessary for this. With this scenario, automatic determination of the storage
location from the Customizing parameters is no longer possible in the
Warehouse Management system. If transfer orders are created with reference to
the delivery or to the transfer requirement, the storage location is
determined. If you have manual transfer orders without reference to a
reference document, the storage location must now be entered in addition to
the plant. In inventory processing, this is also necessary if stock is found
in a storage bin but it does not exist in the system.
- Scenario 3: Several storage
locations for each plant in a warehouse number, where the stock is managed at
interim storage level in other storage locations as warehouse
stock.
Here are two
examples with the respective Customizing parameters:
Stock that is
located in the goods receipt interim storage area is maintained in storage
location 0090 in plant 0001. As soon as the goods are physically located in
the warehouse, the stock is reposted in plant 0001, storage location 0091. The
purpose of this kind of scenario can be, for exmaple, to have the goods
available for
deliveries only when goods receipt processing is complete. This
can be achieved in this scenario if the deliveries only use the stocks in
storage location 0091.
The following
Customizing settings are required for this: storage locations 0090 and 0091 in
plant 0001 are assigned to warehouse number 001. Storage location 0091 is
marked as
standard storage location ; the indicator is set for storage
location 0090 so that it is not copied into the transfer requirement. You
define for interim storge type 902 that the stocks in plant 0001 in this
storage type should belong to storage location 0090 and that the posting
change should be an accumulated posting. We will use the example of a goods
receipt for a purchase order to display how this Customizing area
works:
In Inventory
Management a goods receipt is posted in plant 0001, storage location 0090 for
purchase order 45000011. In Warehouse Management a quant is created by this
posting in the goods receipt interim storage area 902 in storage bin 45000011.
The storage location in the quant is 0090. At the same time, a transfer
requirement is created by the posting. Since, in storage location 0090, the
indicator for not having the storage location adopted in the transfer
requirement is set, the transfer requirement does not have a storage location.
For this reason, the standard storage location 0091 is taken as the storage
location when the transfer requirement is converted into a transfer order. In
the goods receipt interim storage area 902 in storage bin 45000011, the
transfer order creates a negative quant that contains storage location 0091
and a positive quant in the warehouse itself, also with storage location
0091.
When the transfer
order is confirmed, a posting change of the stock must take place in Inventory
Management (storage location to storage location).
General notes on
posting changes:
The time of the
posting change is determined by the indicator "Cumulate posting change" in
Customizing.
If this indicator is
set, the posting change is created by the program RLLQ0100 ,
which can be planned as a background job or executed manually using
Transaction LQ01 . If this indicator is not set, the posting
change takes place in the background immediately after the transfer order has
been confirmed. If you have set transfer orders with immediate confirmation,
the posting change takes place immediately after the transfer order has been
created.
In both cases, the
posting change takes place in Inventory Management with the defined movement
type "storage location to storage location". If you have the mail indicator
set, a mail is sent - in the case of an error - to the user entered in the
mail control. In both cases, the available quantity of the quant undergoes a
posting change. The change applies to quants whose storge location is
different from the one in Customizing (V_T320A) defined for this storage type.
The posting change takes place directly at storage bin 45000011 (storage type
902), whereby both quants that exist there are deleted. As a rule, no
posting change notice is created. Thiskind of posting change can
only take place in storage types that are suitable for direct postings from
Inventory Management. This is checked in Customizing in the storage type
control.
This procedure is
only used for available stocks. In the case of transfer requirements for stock
types Q quality inspection stock, R blocked
stock returns, and S blocked stock, the storage location is
always copied into the transfer requirement. Accordingly, the transfer order
is placed into this storage location. There is no posting change in Inventory
Management. We recommend in these cases that you execute the posting change
together with the posting change to unrestricted-use stock.
Stocks that are
actually in production are managed in storage location 0092 in plant 0001.
Stocks in the warehouse are managed in storage location 0091 / plant 0001. As
soon as the goods are physically in production, the stock is reposted in plant
0001, storage location 0092. The following example assumes that the WM-PP
interface is active and that stocks that have been made available by Warehouse
Management are in storage type 100.
The following
Customizing settings are required for this: storage locations 0091 and 0092 in
plant 0001 are assigned to warehouse number 001. Storage location 0091 is
designated as the standard storage location. For storage location 0092 you
have set the indicator that the storage location is not copied into the
transfer requirement. You define for production storage type 100 that the
stock of this storage type belongs in plant 0001, storage location 0092 and
that the posting change is to take place as an accumulated posting. This
Customizing configuration gives the following procedure for material staging
for a production order.
In the component of
the production order, plant 0001 and storage location 0092 are entered. The
storage location of the respective supply area is also 0092. The material
staging takes place for production order 10000011. In Warehouse Management, a
transfer requirement is automatically created through this material staging.
Since you have set the indicator for storage location 0092 that the storage
location is not copied into the transfer requirement, the transfer requirement
has no storage location. For this reason, the standard storage location 0091
is determined as the storage location during transfer order creation. This
means that only (1) quants in the warehouse (storage location 0091 are
selected for stock removal (picking). A positive quant is created in storage
type 100 with storage location 0091 through the transfer order.
When the transfer
order has been confirmed, you must execute a posting change for the stock in
Inventory Management. Through this posting change, the quant in storage type
100 (storage location 0091) is deleted and a new quant is created with storage
location 0092. The subsequent goods issue posting for the production order
also takes place from storage location 0092 and thus reduces the stock of the
quant
In this scenario,
make sure that at the time when the production order is released no stock of
the material is in storage location 0092. In this case, the availability check
must only take place at plant level.
General data on
posting changes:
As described above,
the time of the posting change is controlled by the indicator "Cumulate
posting change". The posting change is executed using the program RLLQ0100 or
Transaction LQ01.
As a rule, the
available quantity of the quantity is always included in the posting change.
You also change quants whose storage location is different from the storage
location defined in Customizing for the storage type. The posting change takes
place directly in the storage bin of the quant; both quants there are deleted
by this.
Here, too, no
posting change notice is created. This type of posting change can therefore
only take place in storage types for which direct postings from Inventory
Management are suitable.
Requirements
The
component MM-IM
(Inventory Management) is implemented.
Recommendation
SAP recommends that you manage only one storage
location within a plant in a warehouse number.
Activities
1. Decide
whether you want to manage several storage locations within a plant in a
warehouse number.
2.
Storage location reference
You can assign a
two-digit, freely selectable storage type reference to the combination PLANT /
STORAGE LOCATION. This storage location reference is used in two places in the
Warehouse Management system:
a) The storage
location reference is used by the system to determine the WM movement type for
an IM posting. It is thus possible to determine different movement types
within the WM system for the various storage locations and thus to execute
postings to different interim storage types.
b) Also, the
storage type reference is used for the storage type search. In this way, it is
possible both during stock placement as well as during stock removals to
select different storage types dependent on the storage location.
3.
Control of assignment "Plant / storage location - warehouse
number"
In the IMG chapter
"Corporate structure", you define which storage locations are assigned to
warehouse numbers. In this section, you enter the required control parameters
for the assignments.
4.
Storage location control in Warehouse Management
Using the storage
location control function, you can define whether posting changes are to be
accumulated or which user is to be informed by Mail if an error occurs. For
more information on the subject "Mail" or background processing, refer to the
IMG chapter
Automatic TO creation.
