Document Structure
In the Document Structure
view, you see the document structure of the CAD object that is currently active or of a different document info record with a single-level or multi-level document structure in a tree structure.
In this view, you see the following data:
Valid document items
Drawings that exist for a model if you have selected the Display Drawings
display option
In this view, the following functions are available:
Selection Functions
Select All
Deselect All
Refresh
The system reads the changes made by all users to document info records and document structures since the last refresh, and displays the most current version.
Document: Display or Change
You use these functions to navigate to the display or change screen for the selected document.
Document: Delete
The system physically deletes document info records in the document management system. Checks are performed to ensure deletion is permitted. For example, a document info record cannot be deleted if it is contained in a document structure.
Document: Set Status
The system evaluates the common successor status of a list of selected document info records. Once you have selected one of the statuses, the system changes the status of all selected document info records to that status.
Document: Add to Document Structure Browser
If the document browser is active, document info records can be added to the selected directory of the document structure browser.
Show: As Saved, Latest Versions, or Released Versions
If you use this function, the system retrieves the document structure according to the following show criteria:
As saved in DMS
The latest versions of the documents
The released versions of the documents
You can set the value of this function in Customizing parameter EDESK_LOAD_OPTION. The default value is As Saved
.
Original: Restore Last Check-In
If you have made changes to an original in your local working area, but you decide not to make these changes valid, you can reproduce the status of the previous change by using this function. The file that you last checked in is valid again. The locally-changed file is still available.
Original: Display or Change
In the CAD system, you can display or change originals that were checked in and have document info records.
If you choose these functions, you load data from the SAP system into the CAD system.
In doing so, E-desktop determines all dependent document info records, for example from a document structure, that must be considered as well.
Original: Display Lightweight
The system evaluates the structure in the document structure view and if a lightweight file exists, it is displayed instead of the CAD original. If there is no lightweight file available, the system transfers the CAD original instead.
As a prerequisite, in Customizing you must set Lightweight CAD Original
when you maintain the applications for the corresponding CAD System
and User Group
. The lightweight CAD file must also have been
added to the document info record by CAD integration or manually.
Original: Display or Change Incompletely
You can use these functions to display or change parts of a CAD model. That is, you can change selected document info records without having to load the entire model to the CAD system.
When you select multiple document info records for Display
, the system evaluates the common parent and the document structures of the selected document info records, and they are all transferred.
During Change
, the selected document info records are also checked-out.
Functions for Materials
Create
Create in Background
If you create the material in the background, the system reads the attributes to be assigned from Customizing.
Display
You can display the linked materials for the selected document info record. If only one material is linked, then it is displayed directly. If more than one material is linked, then you get a selection.
Change
Assign
Select Material Link
You can link a material to a selected document info record. Several links are possible; the system marks the first link with the CAD-Relevant
indicator. If a material link with this indicator already exists,
then this indicator is retained.
Functions for Material BOM or iPPE Variant Assembly
In Customizing, you define whether you want create iPPE variant assemblies or classic material BOMs with E-desktop. Depending on this setting, the corresponding functions listed below are available to you:
Functions for Material BOM:
Create
To create a material BOM, a wizard is available. (See Create and Refresh Material BOMs Using the Wizard.)
Update
If you have changed the document structure, you can then update the material BOM accordingly. (See Create and Refresh Material BOMs Using the Wizard.)
Change
Display
Set Explosion Parameters
Here you define which items of the document structure the system copies as items when creating a material BOM.
Functions for iPPE Variant Assembly:
Create/Refresh
The system creates variant assemblies in the background, you cannot make any further settings.
Display
Change
Product Assembly: Display or Change
You can use this function to view and change components you have created with the iPPE Variant Create/Refresh function.
Note
To use this function, your iPPE model must be compliant with Product Structure Management
and vice versa.
Display in Document Structure
You use this function to switch to the Document Structure
view and display the selected object with the structure there.
Replace in Document List
You use this function to switch to the Document List
view and replace the old document list with the new one.
Add to Document List
You use this function to switch to the Document List
view and add the new items to the old document list.
Where-Used List
You can execute a version-dependent or version-independent where-used list of documents for all object types.
If you select a document, and execute the where-used list, the system displays the results in the document list.
Display Options: Display No Drawings
Display Options: Display Drawings (Version-Based)
The system only displays drawings that belong to the displayed version of the document.
Display Options: Display Drawings (Versionless)
The system displays drawings for all versions of the document that is currently displayed.
Display Options: Display Classification
If this display option is set, the system retrieves all characteristics and the values of the document info record and displays them in the view. New columns are created.
If the Customizing parameter EDESK_CLASSIFICATION is set, this display option is always turned on by default.
Display Options: Display References
If this display option in the document structure view is set, the system shows all external references and exchange assemblies that are saved with the current document structure in DMS.
If this option is not set, external references and exchange assemblies will not be displayed.
In addition, if the Customizing parameter EDESK_EXCL_REFERENCE is set, not necessary references (relationship type “y” or “Y”) will always be excluded. (See also External References).
Display Options: Display Suppressed Components
If this display option in document structure is turned on (default), suppressed components will be displayed in the document structure view.
The Customizing parameter EDESK_SUPPRESSED_CMP controls whether all components are transferred to the CAD system during Display Original
or Change Original
, or whether only the header of a suppressed structure is transferred.
See also Suppressed Components.
Show in Detail Area: Image Preview
You can display a preview of original files in all views of E-desktop in a separate screen area.
Show in Detail Area: Document Browser
You can use this function to display the document browser in E-desktop. It will appear on the right-side of the window, where the EDIPUBLICROOTFOLDER and the private folder (if it exists) can be accessed.
Copy to E-Desktop (from Document Structure Browser)
If the document browser is active, document info records can be copied from the document structure browser to the document structure view or document list view of Engineering Desktop.
Hide / Unhide General Data
You can use this function to hide the General Data
area.
Integrated PLM Search (Quick Search and Advanced Search)
The PLM search (including classification search) is fully integrated in E-desktop.
The key words can either be inserted into the search line and the result appears in a popup, or the advanced search can be called directly in a popup. The results can be exported to document structure view or document list.
The same search is available for the Assign Document to Product Item Variant
function.
Integration to BCV
Like other areas of PLM, Engineering Desktop is integrated to BCV. No standard content is delivered for document info records.
