Function documentationAssembly View

In the assembly view, you see the structure of the CAD object that is currently active in the CAD system, for example the structure of an assembly.

Integration

The following data is transferred from the CAD system:

  • Key for the document info record and the file name of the original, if document info records exist for the CAD objects

  • Information about the change state of the CAD object, with respect to its saved state; in other words, the change date that was created and sent during the check out.

  • Information about whether the CAD object has been changed since the last check out or check in.

Features

In this view, the following functions are available:

  • Selection Functions

    • Select All

    • Deselect All

  • Refresh

The system reads the changes made by all users to document info records and document structures since the last refresh, and displays the most current version.

  • Document: Create in Background

You can have the system create documents in the background for selected CAD objects in this view. The system reads, from Customizing, the attributes that are to be assigned.

  • Document: Create for All in Background

You can have the system create documents in the background for all objects that exist in this view.

If you have selected all CAD objects, the system first expands the structure, then loads all associated drawings and references, and then creates the documents.

If Customizing parameter EDESK_ADD_FILES is set, additional original files can be attached during document creation.

  • Document: Create New Version

You can use this function to create new versions of documents. The system assigns the current original to a new version. If a user has checked out the current version, the system restores the last check-in first.

If Customizing parameter EDESK_ADD_FILES is set, additional original files can be attached during the creation of document versions.

  • Document: Display or Change

You use these functions to navigate to the display or change screen for the selected document.

  • Document: Delete

The system physically deletes document info records in the document management system. Checks are performed to ensure deletion is permitted. For example, a document info record cannot be deleted if it is contained in a document structure.

  • Document: Set Status

The system evaluates the common successor status of a list of selected document info records. Once you have selected one of the statuses, the system changes the status of all selected document info records to that status.

  • Document: Add to Document Structure Browser

If the document browser is active, document info records can be added to the selected directory of the document structure browser.

  • Original: Check Out

If you want to edit or change originals, you can use this function to check out the original files and work on them.

  • Original: Check In with Structure

When you check in an original file, the system copies the selected document info records with the originals, and a document structure is created. E-desktop checks the dependencies that were transferred from the CAD system to the structure of the CAD model (such as an assembly). If you also have to check in originals that you have not selected, the system displays these in a simplified display in a window.

E-desktop displays only the objects that are to be checked in.

If Update Document is set in Customizing, the attributes will be automatically updated during check-in.

If Customizing parameter EDESK_MULT_INSTANCES is set, multiple instances of one document are allowed for the document structure. If it is not set, the instances are summed up.

    Note Note

If the option is set, the document structure will always be deleted and newly created when checking in with a structure. The result is that no history will be available and no change number use is possible.

    End of the note.

If Customizing parameter EDESK_ADD_FILES is set, the attachment of additional original during document creation and check in can be activated.

  • Original: Check In Without Structure

When you check in an original file, the system copies the selected document info records with the originals.

  • Original: Save All Changes

All components that are not checked-in will be checked-in (without a structure) and checked-out to save all changes.

If you set Customizing parameter EDESK_SAVE_CHANGES, only the components that were modified will be considered by this function.

  • Original: Reset Modified Flag

You can use this function to reset the modified flag in E-desktop and in the CAD system.

  • Original: Restore Last Check-In

If you have made changes to an original in your local working area, but you decide not to make these changes valid, you can reproduce the status of the previous change by using this function. The file that you last checked in is valid again. The locally-changed file is still available.

  • Functions for Materials

    • Create

    • Create in Background

If you create the material in the background, the system reads the attributes to be assigned from Customizing.

    • Display

You can display the linked materials for the selected document info record. If only one material is linked, then it is displayed directly. If more than one material is linked, then you get a selection.

    • Change

    • Assign

    • Select Material Link

You can link a material to a selected document info record. Several links are possible; the system marks the first link with the CAD-Relevant indicator. If a material link with this indicator already exists, then this indicator is retained.

  • Functions for Material BOM or iPPE Variant Assembly

In Customizing, you define whether you want create iPPE variant assemblies or classic material BOMs with E-desktop. Depending on this setting, the corresponding functions listed below are available to you:

    • Functions for Material BOM:

    • Functions for iPPE Variant Assembly:

      • Create/Refresh

The system creates variant assemblies in the background, you cannot make any further settings.

      • Display

      • Change

  • Product Assembly: Display or Change

You can use this function to view and change components you have created with the iPPE Variant Create/Refresh function.

    Note Note

To use this function, your iPPE model must be compliant with Product Structure Management and vice versa.

    End of the note.
  • Display in Document Structure

You use this function to switch to the Document Structure view and display the selected object with the structure there.

  • Replace in Document List

You use this function to switch to the Document List view and replace the old document list with the new one.

  • Add to Document List

You use this function to switch to the Document List view and add the new items to the old document list.

  • Where-Used List

You can execute a version-dependent or version-independent where-used list of documents for all object types.

If you select a document, and execute the where-used list, the system displays the results in the document list.

  • Display Options: Reload Drawings

You can use this function to reload drawings that belong to a specific document. The drawings do not need to be open in the CAD system.

  • Display Options: Reload References

If this display option is set, the CAD integration delivers all external references (see section CAD-Specific Objects) that are currently loaded with the main assembly in the CAD system and displays them in the assembly view.

  • Display Options: Display Classification

If this display option is set, the system retrieves all characteristics and the values of the document info record and displays them in the view. New columns are created.

If the Customizing parameter EDESK_CLASSIFICATION is set, this display option is always turned on by default.

  • Show in Detail Area: Image Preview

You can display a preview of original files in all views of E-desktop in a separate screen area.

  • Show in Detail Area: Document Browser

You can use this function to display the document browser in E-desktop. It will appear on the right-side of the window, where the EDIPUBLICROOTFOLDER and the private folder (if it exists) can be accessed.

  • Hide / Unhide General Data

You can use this function to hide the General Data area.

  • Integrated PLM Search (Quick Search and Advanced Search)

The PLM search (including classification search) is fully integrated in E-desktop.

The key words can either be inserted into the search line and the result appears in a popup, or the advanced search can be called directly in a popup. The results can be exported to document structure view or document list.

The same search is available for the Assign Document to Product Item Variant function.

  • Integration to BCV

Like other areas of PLM, Engineering Desktop is integrated to BCV. No standard content is delivered for document info records.
