Working with Repository Launchpads

A repository launchpad can be used if the same application should be contained in several launchpads.

If this is the case, you enter the application only once in a so-called repository launchpad. The launchpads in which you want to include this application do not contain the whole application data but only reference the repository application. It is also possible to reference complete repository launchpad folders if the folder structure in the referencing launchpad still adheres to the launchpad type. It is, however, not possible to create references between repository launchpads.

If an application in the repository launchpad is changed, all launchpads that reference this application are updated automatically.

Example

A launchpad for Employee Self-Service (ESS) contains links to applications which are valid internationally as well as some country-specific ones. In this case, you can create a repository launchpad which contains all international application links. These can then be referenced in various country-specific launchpads.

Maintenance, Transport and Translation of a Repository Launchpad

The maintenance, transport and translation of repository launchpads are generally the same as for launchpads. However, you should keep in mind the following points:
  • If a new version of a repository launchpad is created and transported, existing references are not affected. These references still refer to the old version of the repository launchpad. In transaction LPD_CUST, however, only the newest version of a repository launchpad is visible.
  • If the current version of a repository launchpad is changed and transported, the existing referencing launchpads are automatically changed accordingly. Deletions in the current version of a repository launchpad will invalidate existing references. In transaction LPD_CUST such invalidated references are marked with the description text The linked application does not exist.
  • The information regarding if and where a repository launchpad application is used can be found in the Where-Used List. To open this list, display the context-menu of the application in the repository launchpad. To navigate from the Where-Used List to the referencing launchpad, double-click an entry, or select it and choose Continue.
