Procedure documentationWorking with BOM Redlining

Follow the procedures outlined below to create, change, and delete redlinings.

Prerequisites

See BOM Redlining on the Web UI.

Procedure

Creating a BOM Redlining
  1. Navigate to the initial screen Display Material BOM and select the material BOM (MatBOM) for which you want to create a redlining.

  2. Choose Redlining on the Details screen for the selected MatBOM.

  3. In the Create Redlining dialog box that appears, enter a name and a description for the new redlining and choose OK.

    Note Note

By default, the initial redlining is called Redlining1. You cannot change this name; however, you can choose to ignore this redlining and create a new one with a different name.

    End of the note.

All items for the selected MatBOM are displayed in a list. You can add a new item, change the details of an existing item, or delete an item.

  4. Select the item that you want to modify. Fields that can be modified for both stock items and non-stock items are shown in the table below.

    Note Note

    • If you are adding a new item (of any category type) to a MatBOM, you need to enter an item number in addition to the other fields for the item categories listed or tabled above.

    • For all BOM items, you can enter notes by choosing the link in the Redlining Notes column.

    • If the MatBOM has a history requirement, the change number is a mandatory field (used to derive the validity date).

    End of the note.
  8. Save your redlining.

Color Indicators

In addition to icons, redlining uses the following colors to indicate changes by highlighting the entire row of the BOM item:

  • Green: New

  • Yellow: Changed

  • Red: Deleted

Changing an Existing BOM Redlining
  1. Open the MatBOM and choose Redlining. The list of redlinings appears.

  2. Select the redlining you want to modify.

    Note Note

If you open a MatBOM with a change number, the system prefills the change number field in the redlining header with a proposed validity date. You can change this value.

    End of the note.
  3. Make the changes to the redlining, then choose Save.

  4. Choose Details to see a read-only field showing the changes between the original values and redlined values.

Redlining Statuses
  • In Work

  • Completed

  • Approved

  • Rejected

If the status of a redlining is In Work, Completed, or Rejected, you can redline all supported fields for BOM items for various item categories.

If the status of a redlining is Approved, all fields become read-only. You can choose only to apply or not to apply the approved redlining to the original MatBOM.

Applying Approved Redlining Changes

Once a redlining has the status Approved, you can choose Apply to accept the approved changes to the original MatBOM. The values in the redlining replace the original or previously-saved values.

Once a redlining is applied, it still appears in the Name dropdown list.

Deleting a BOM Redlining

Note Note

Users must have delete authorization to perform this function.

End of the note.
  1. Open the MatBOM and choose Redlining. The list of redlinings appears, minus the redlining that is currently active.

  2. Select the redlining you want to delete.

  3. Choose Delete. A dialog box appears, containing the following data for the selected redlining:

    • Name

    • Description

    • Responsible user

    • Change number / validity date

    • Status

  4. Choose Delete in the dialog box. The redlining is permanently removed from the database.
