Analyze Functional Dependencies Using the Sunburst View
Use the sunburst view when you have a large number of functional dependencies to
analyze.
Use the sunburst view for any of the following situations:
-
You want to avoid scrolling through a large number of functional dependencies.
-
You want to easily see all functional dependencies involving a specific column.
You can hover over or click on a column in the legend and then all occurrences of that
column are highlighted in the sunburst.
-
You want to see only the functional dependencies where a specific column is on the left
side.
You can double-click on a column in the first ring of the sunburst and see only the
functional dependencies where this column is on the left side.
To analyze the functional dependencies of the data on your worksheet:
-
Open the worksheet you want to analyze.
-
Select the Functional Dependencies icon in the
top left corner above your worksheet.
-
If the tree view appears, click the sunburst icon in the lower left.
The sunburst view shows color coded rings, and the legend shows the column represented by
each color.
-
The center circle represents the worksheet.
-
The next two rings represent the functional dependencies between
pairs of columns. The first ring represents the column on the
left-hand side of the functional dependency, and the second ring
represents the column on the right-hand side.
-
The outermost ring indicates how well the column values conform
to the implied dependency. The darker the green is, the more the
values comply and the less the values violate the
dependency.
-
Move your pointer over each column in the second ring to display the two columns at the top
and the approximate percentage of rows that do not comply with each functional
dependency.
-
Click a column in either the second ring or outermost ring to display the
following details in the right side panel:
-
Circle diagram that indicates the exact percentage of compliant
rows and violating rows
-
Function that represents the dependency between the two columns
if the application is able to detect it
-
Bar graph that shows the conflicting values for each violating
row
For each occurrence of a unique value in column A, column B
should have the same value. Violations occur when multiple
occurrences of a distinct value in column A appears with
different values in column B.
-
If you want to see functional dependencies that are
statistically unlikely or impossible to encounter conflicts, select the
Include trivial option.
Trivial functional dependencies include the following:
-
Columns on the left-hand side contain only unique values.
For example, a unique ID column does not have multiple
occurrences of the same value; therefore, no conflicting values
can occur on the right-hand side.
-
Column B values are calculated by a formula on column A.
-
If you want to see the functional dependencies whose percentage of violating rows lies
within a certain percentage range, move the Violations
slider accordingly.
You can now go back to your worksheet to resolve some of the conflicting values by
using actions such as Harmonize Values.
