Create Rules on a Worksheet
Create rules for data on a worksheet to determine which records do not comply with your business requirements.
- Open the worksheet for which you want to define rules.
- Click the Rules icon in the top left corner above your worksheet.
- For Worksheet Key on the right side panel, select one or more columns to uniquely identify each record in your worksheet.
- In the lower right hand side of the listed rules, click + to add a new rule to the worksheet.
-
Define the rule on the Create New Rule dialog by following these
steps:
- Enter a name for your rule.
- (Optional) Type a description for your rule.
-
For Record expectation, either accept the
default setting or change it.
Setting for Record expectation
Description
Records that verify the rule pass
Pass the records that verify or comply with the rule. This setting is the default.
Records that verify the rule fail
Fail the records that verify or comply with the rule.
-
Create the conditional expressions for the rule using one of the following options:
Option to Define Rule
Description
Text Rule
Use a text line to create a rule that has one or more conditional expressions. A conditional expression evaluates to true or false.
Decision Table
Use a decision table to facilitate creating rules that contain many conditions. A complex rule might also be more readable in a decision table rather than a text rule
NoteIf you are using a text line and want to use a decision table instead, click the X on the right side of the text line and click Decision Table. Similarly, if you are using a decision table, you can click the X on the right side of the decision table and click Text Rule.
-
After you have defined the rule with valid conditional expressions, the left side of the
Rules tab shows the tile with the rule name.
You can take any of the following actions:
-
Edit this rule or other previously defined rules
-
Delete any of the rules
-
Create more rules
-
Click the Run All Rules
icon to
update the results on each rule tile. You can then click the
Data Table icon in the top left
corner to return to your worksheet where you can define a filter
to see the rows that pass or fail each rule.
