Restrictions

Definition

Restrictions are parameters that are used in the SAPterm terminology database to classify terms for special handling in the source and target languages. The restrictions are:

  • Non-translatable

  • Proprietary restriction

  • Legal restriction

Integration

There are some general standards that apply to the use of restrictions:

  • You should only use restrictions if they are absolutely necessary.

  • Only a SAPterm superuser is authorized to set the restriction Non-translatable.

  • Restrictions can be set individually or in combination.

Features

Non-Translatable Restriction

You use the restriction Non-translatable in SAPterm to indicate that a source language term must remain the same in all target translation languages.

Proprietary Restriction

You use the Proprietary Restriction parameter in SAPterm to indicate the trademarked or copyrighted names of products or special features used by a company.

This does not necessarily mean that the term entry cannot be translated, only that, if it is translated, it must be translated as defined by the owner.

Legal Restriction

You use the Legal Restriction parameter

to indicate that a specific legal issue affects the wording and translation of a term.
