General Information

Use

The SAPterm data structure is "concept-oriented". SAPterm is compatible with commercially available terminology databases, which are also concept-oriented.

Concept orientation means that a concept is an abstract linguistic entity. A concept is defined by entries in various languages.

Concept-Oriented Terminology Database

A SAPterm concept has the following global attributes:

  • Component subject area to which this concept applies

  • Translation relevance (which is indicated by its entry class)

  • Links to SAP objects and documentation, for example data elements, or Knowledge Warehouse documentation.

Each entry also has attributes:

  • Language

  • Valid release range

  • Country-specific entry

  • Industry sector-specific entry

  • Grammatical attributes

In contrast to a dictionary, you can search for the translation of a term in any language in a concept-oriented terminology database.

Concept-oriented terminology databases are particularly appropriate for managing technical terminology. This approach is less useful for managing a colloquial dictionary.
