Example documentationExample: Medium-Term Surgery Planning

At this planning level, you assign appointments for surgery preregistrations. Medium-term surgery planning is a rough planning phase.

When planning with a medium-term planning period, an overview of the surgery planning situation is absolutely essential. The surgery planning overview should cover a considerable period of time. Surgeries are not planned on a time-specific basis, but only for one specific (day-based). The assignment of operating rooms is not a priority in medium-term planning.

The following information is, for example, required:

  • Patient's Name

  • Diagnosis

  • Service(s)

  • Surgeon

There are two different characteristics of medium-term surgery planning:

  • Regular calculable surgery events

Here the duration of the surgeries is constant throughout. You divide surgeries using categories, for example, two hours, four hours, and longer. You can configure the categories as service groups. The services and diagnoses behind the quantities in the day-based planning are of secondary interest here.

  • Irregular surgery events

The planning user requires precise information about the services and diagnoses behind the surgery to be planned. The user must be able to assess which day the surgery should be planned for. Major and minor surgeries are planned at the planning user's discretion with different durations and resource reservations (operating room, surgery team).

Day-based surgery planning is therefore insufficient for irregular surgery events. You should use surgery planning in list form with a view of the Surgeries view type of the clinical order, which is restricted to essential information. Surgeries are displayed on single rows. Alternatively you can also use the Appointment Planning view type for surgery planning.

    Note Note

This example demonstrates how you can use the views of the view type. Only an example surgery planning process is described, which must be adapted to suit customer requirements.

By using the Surgeries view type for medium-term and long-term planning you achieve a uniform look and feel for the user. The system administrator manages the various OR plans using the clinical work station. This enables simple management of OR plans.

    End of the note.
