Provisional Patient Master Data
Provisional Patient Master Data can include the patient name and further information such as the sex, birthdate, etc..
When you enter provisional patient data the input of a last name is not mandatory.
Caution
Note that you cannot use provisional patients without data (in particular the last name, first name, birthdate) as search criteria, because the system assigns the unique identification (PAPID) and this field is not intended as search criteria.
If system administration wishes to suppress the entry of provisional patient data without names, it must define the relevant fields of the dialogs concerned as required entry fields using screen modification. You define required entry fields in the Implementation Guide
under .
If the patient data which you have when entering the clinical order, does not satisfy patient data management requirements, you can enter the patient in the clinical order using provisional patient master data.
Example
A family physician calls to preregister a patient for admission or a surgery. During this call, the user enters only the name of the patient in the clinical order. It is possible, but not mandatory, to search for the patient among those which already exist in the system.
The user does not enter the complete patient master data until the patient is admitted. The system provides the provisional patient master data from the clinical order to preset the admission.
