Procedure documentationChanging Doses

You can change the dosage information of one or more orders.

If an order no longer has the internal status saved, the system creates a subsequent order in each case.

Note that the start of validity of the subsequent order is preset with the system time and the end of validity is preset with the end of validity of the original order. The system then sets the end of validity of the original order to the start of validity of the subsequent order.

Note Note

For infusions, you can decide in the Change Dose dialog whether percentage changes to the dose should refer to the overall dose, only the active ingredient, or all ingredients except the solution.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

The order has the internal status saved, active or suspended.

Note Note

The Change Drug function is only available in the order detail dialog if the order does not have the internal status saved.

End of the note.

Procedure

  1. Select the order in the order dialog or in a view of the Medication Orders view type in the clinical work station.

    Note Note

In the order detail dialog, you can only change the dose of the displayed order.

    End of the note.
  2. Choose Change Dose (Change Dose) in the order dialog or in a view, or Change Dose (Change Dose) in the order detail dialog.

    Note Note

In case of continual infusions and single administrations (if the event has not yet been removed or the calculated end time is in the past), the system opens the flow rate table in the current order and creates a new flow rate of the continual type.

In the following situations, the system creates a copy of the old order and renews the old order:

    • The event has already been removed.

    • The end time of a single administration has been reached.

    • A continual infusion or nutritional solution has already ended

    • You change the dosage of an intermittent infusion.

    End of the note.
  3. Depending on the user-specific presettings, you have the following additional means of specifying a new dosage:

    • Change Dose dialog box. Enter the desired percentage change of the dose.

      Note Note

Based on the divisibility of a drug, the system may propose a rounded-up dosage.

The system rounds up to the next possible dose. If the desired dosage is less than the smallest possible dose, the system rounds up to the smallest possible dose.

      End of the note.
    • Select Alternatives dialog box. Select the desired drug with the desired agent concentration.

    • No additional dialog box.

  4. Adjust the dosage, if required.

Result

If the order to be changed already had the internal status active orsuspended, the system created a subsequent order with the internal status saved.

If the order to be changed has the internal status saved, you can change the existing order accordingly.

Note Note

If events have already been generated for the original order, the system automatically calls event generation for the subsequent order.

End of the note.

Example

Due to a lab value concerning the kidney function, the dosage of an order must be reduced by 50%.

Select the order to be changed and call the Change Dose function. In the Change Dose dialog enter a reduction of 50% and confirm the dialog.

According to the divisibility of the drug the system will create a subsequent order with the reduced dose.
