Propose Issue Quantity for Dispensing/Printing Prescriptions
You can use the Propose Issue Quantity
function to have the system propose issue quantities for alternative drugs with differing package sizes, or dose strengths when dispensing or printing prescriptions. This function is available in the compressed view of the order.
Note
This function is not available for orders with the Administration
purpose.
The system displays the drugs which can be used as alternatives and their proposed issue quantity based on the differing dose strength. The system takes into account the following rules:
The dimensions of the base unit of the drugs must match.
In case of drugs with a dose unit which is not assigned to a dimension (e.g. tablet) you can replace these with a drug with a dose unit which is also not assigned to a dimension (e.g. capsule).
The agent composition of the drugs must match.
The drug category of the drugs must match.
The alternative drug must have "Active" status in the formulary, i.e. it must be orderable and it must be suitable for the selected purpose.
Note
You can customer-specifically change the selection of proposed alternative issue quantities using the SEARCH_OTHER_PKGSIZE
method of business add-in ISHMED_ME_DRUG_SUBST
.
You can only use this function if the following prerequisites are satisfied:
The order may not have a status higher than Saved
No events can exist for this order
All information for calculating the total dose (cycle, order duration, individual dose) must be entered in the order
In the Issue Quantity Proposal
dialog window, the system displays the original drug of the order (first row) and the alternative drugs for the substitution.
You can select the displayed fields and save them as a layout.
You can select an alternative drug and transfer it to the order. The system replaces the original drug in the order with the selected alternative drug.
Note
You should note that the proposal dialog for the issue quantity of an alternative drug always assumes a quantity of 1. This means that the proposal dialog will not take into account issue quantities which were previously increased in the order dialog so that you can better compare the expected number of repeat events.
The proposal dialog shows how long it will be until the relevant package is consumed. A comparison with the order duration is therefore available.
When you select an alternative drug, the system will adjust the dose depending on the relationship of the dose strengths of the drug. All other order attributes (cycle, order duration) remain untouched.
You order drug A with a dose strength of 500 mg. As an alternative the system offers drug B with a dose strength of 250 mg. If you select drug B, the system will replace the previously selected dose, for example, 1 tablet of drug A with the corresponding dose to be substituted. This means that, in this case, the system will enter 2 tablets of drug B as the individual dose in the order.
