Extending an Order Duration

You can use this function to adjust the order duration of an active order. You can, for example, move the end time of orders with a planned end date.

When extending the order status the system generates new events if the extension period falls within the event generation horizon.

When shortening the order duration the system cancels any events which are already planned. You should note that you can only reduce the order duration up to the time of the last administered event.

When you flag the End Order checkbox, the system immediately executes the status change. If the new end time is in the future, the system creates an order activity.

Use the system parameter N1MERCRCV to preset the cancellation reason in the Change Order Duration function.

This function is available in views of the Medication Orders View Type in the clinical work station.

Procedure

In a view of the Medication Orders view type in the clinical work station, select an order and choose (Change Order Duration).
The Change Order Duration dialog box appears.
Enter the duration of the extension and choose (Continue), to extend the order.

Note Note

Note that you can only shorten orders without an end date. If you set the End Order at Planned End Time checkbox, the system creates an order activity.
