Suspending an Order
You can suspend one or more valid active orders. This function is used to temporarily suspend orders, which are then resumed at a later time.
Example
Due to an absence or an unplanned surgery, the order must be suspended.
The system sets the orders to the internal status Inactive and cancels the future drug events which have not yet been administered, dispensed, or a prescription printed.
The system does not cancel the events in the past, regardless of whether they have already been administered, dispensed or a prescription printed. If the administering employee tries to document an event in the past, the system displays information stating that the order has been suspended. The administering employee can decide whether he still wishes to document the event. The same procedure applies if the pharmacist wishes to document the preparation of the drug for an event in the past.
Note
System administration can customer-specifically change or enhance this function using the Business Add-In N1ME_CHANGE_SUSPORD
.
See Customer-Specific Enhancements for Medication
This function is available in views of the Medication Orders View Type in the clinical work station.
Note
You can also determine a future date for the suspension. In this case the system will create an order activity. By scheduling the report RN1ME_OAPROC
as a job, you can execute this order activity and therefore set the status of the order to "Inactive" at the planned time.
Note that the system will cancel the order events which lie after the planned time for suspension, when creating the order activity.
In a view of the Medication Orders
view type in the clinical work station, select several orders and choose
(Suspend Order
).
Alternatively you can call this function in the order dialog.
Note
If you select this function the system creates a flow rate of the "Interrupt" type for all infusions or nutritional solutions orders at the suspension time. Furthermore the order is suspended at the selected time. Note that the documentation of flow rate changes is still also possible for suspended orders.
The Suspend Order
dialog box appears for you to determine the time of the suspension. The system always proposes the system time.
You can use the
(End of Day
) button to set the time to 23:59 of the selected day. In this way, the order and all administration events on the selected day remain active and you suspend the order on the next day.
Note
You can also enter a time in the past. You should note that this time may not lie before the time of the last event documented as administered.
Enter a cancellation reason and an employee responsible for future, as yet non-administered events, and then choose
(Continue
).
You return to the clinical work station.
