Chart Interface Functions
The display component of the chart possesses an array of functions that modify the display behavior. These functions do not update data. The configured functions are also not saved on a user basis. The functions can be accessed via the toolbar, the function menu, and the context menu.
The context menu is partially graph-specific.
The Help menu provides access to an explanation about the graphical elements for all graphs.
The Graphs
menu option lets you hide and show graphs.
The alert icons in line graphs can be switched off separately for the current graph.
In the lower display area, outside of the scrollable area, a time axis is continuously displayed.
You can use this function to switch on and off the display of measurements directly in the chart. This improves the readability of a value series when there is large number of values per displayed time unit. The quick info text remains available.
You can use this function to display the line pattern and the shapes more intensely or smaller. This increases accuracy when searching for the data point or improves the readability of the value series. However, when shapes are small, you may find it hard to get a tooltip text to display.
You can use this function to switch on or off any alert icons that may be displayed on the chart. The function affects all graph areas. If you only want to switch on or off icons in a single graph, you have to use the corresponding function of the context menu.
The Striped Pattern On/Off
function is a visual aid for the time scale presentation. The background is shown alternately in light blue or white according to the time division. Initially, the stripes are active.
For texts of medication and nursing graphs on the y-axis, the system initially only displays a specific number of letters. A series of periods (.) displayed after the last letters shows you that more text exists. The system displays the full text in each row as a quick info text when you position the mouse pointer on this row.
The Shorten Medication and Nursing Graph On/Off
function lets you display all texts in full simultaneously on the y-axis, or hide them.
The shortened display is the default setting. The system also applies the shortened display after each refresh.
You can use these functions to link horizontal or vertical lines to the cursor. Together these form a crosshair. This makes it possible to better view data with the same value or at a given time.
You use the Collect Events On/Off
pushbutton to be able to use the pressed left mouse button to collect events. This is necessary because in the standard configuration the pressed left mouse button is used for the Mouse Zoom
function. If you have chosen Collect Events
, you can collect multiple events in the graphs for nursing and medication by encircling them with the pressed left mouse button. Initially, the zoom function is active.
A patient's medication orders do not necessarily all have the same validity period. If you zoom in the chart, some medication orders do not appear in the displayed time window, but still occupy a row in the medication graph. The Optimize Medication Display
pushbutton lets you optimize the presentation of the medication graph so that the system only displays the medication orders that are valid for the time period displayed. Initially, the function is not active.
You can sort orders by predecessor to make it easier to track changes made to an order. Initially, the function is not active.
You can use the zoom buttons with fixed day intervals to restrict the display area to the corresponding period. The system retains the more recent time on the right and attempts to display the value series up to this time for the specified number of days.
The initial position for the display is set in customizing for the chart layout. The display period defined there is the standard period for the display.
The chart provides the following values as fixed settings for the display area that can be called using a button:
Complete Selection Period
Period in which Data Exists
Standard Period According to Customizing
1-, 3-, 7-, and 28-Day View
The fixed views always count as of the current right display edge. If the number of displayable days is less than the number of days to be displayed, the chart only shows the displayable days.
The standard period is the period that is displayed when the chart is shown. You define this standard period in chart customizing. The standard period can also comprise the complete selection period or only the period in which data exists.
The One Day Forward
and One Day Back
pushbuttons are used to move the displayed chart area forward or back by exactly one day. When the limits of the selection area are reached, the system deactivates the pushbuttons.
You can use the mouse zoom to click any point in time, hold down the mouse button, and drag the pointer to the right. The zoom area you define turns grey. When you release the mouse button, the selected area is enlarged so that that it fits the entire display width of the graph. You can repeat this operation several times in succession. When no further enlargement is possible, the system issues a message.
The first zoom activity activates the Zoom Out
button.
The Zoom Out
button enables you to undo the mouse zoom actions in stages.
If you click in a graph area and move the clicked mouse slightly to the left and then release it, the system switches to the complete display of all data.
If you choose Standard Period
, the system displays this period and deletes the zoom out
memory.
If the chart layout contains a graph for which no data is available for the patient, the system does not display this graph. The system informs you about this by displaying a text above the first graph. You can hide this text by means of this button.
The Emergency View
pushbutton shows you at a glance all the current medication orders for a patient. If you have chosen Emergency View, the system reacts as follows:
The time window displays the initial period specified by the chart layout.
Only medication graphs are displayed. All other graphs are hidden.
The texts of the current medication orders are shown in full.
Recommendation
Note that the medication graphs are displayed in condensed form. Ended orders are thus not included.
To switch from the emergency view to the previous view, choose Emergency View
again.
The slider zone shows the upper and lower limit of the displayed selection period on the right and left respectively. The position of the slider itself situates the time window in the complete displayable interval. The quick info text displays the actual time interval.
You can move the slider using the mouse. This changes the display accordingly, however the period remains unchanged. Using the buttons on the left and right of the slider zone you can modify the time frame incrementally. One increment forwards or backwards corresponds to the time frame displayed in the window. If you display, for example, a time interval of five days, you move the window five days forward or back with each click.
A clock icon with an adjacent a time specification are located at the bottom right of the chart display area. The time specification shows you when the chart data was last refreshed.
Caution
Refresh the display of the chart data at regular intervals. The system does not make an automatic refresh.
For this reason, it is essential to choose the Refresh button above the chart window before making decisions relevant to medical treatment.
The patient's name is displayed at the bottom left of the chart display area. If you position the mouse pointer on the name, the quick info text shows further data on the patient. The scope of the data displayed is that which has been defined for printout (see: Printing of Vital Signs below).
You can show or hide individual line graphs in group graphs.
In the case of line graphs, you can create a printout of the currently visible graphs. You access this function when you move the mouse onto the relevant graph and call up the context menu. It contains the Print Graph
item. When you choose this function, the system shows the print preview of the graph in a separate window. Important data on the patient is integrated into the printout. If you want to print more data than the patient information delivered and/or see more data than shown in the quick info text for the patient, you can define this by means of a BAdI interface in chart customizing.
With the Print
button you can send the data to a local printer connected to your PC. Printout on SAP system printers is not supported.
Change Selection
To further improve the provision of information the chart offers dynamic changes to the selection period an the layout. You can use this button to immediately select another chart layout, if you are authorized to use other layouts. A user’s authorization for a chart layout is determined by means of the authorization object N_2CHART
.
You can also retain the current chart layout and change the selection period.
Chart Layout Favorites
With this function you can compile your own hit list of chart layouts. If you have the appropriate authorization, you can transfer the chart layout currently in use into your favorites list or replace it with a chart layout from the favorites list.
If you select a different layout, the system reloads all relevant data and displays it in the new layout.
Change Display Settings
With this function you change the user-specific settings for the chart display. You can have the system save the settings for font size and cursor lines.
Info on Chart Layout
This function tells shows you which patient and case are involved, which chart layout is used to display the information and which selection period applies to the data.
