Defining Query Views in BCVLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can use this process to define a query view in Business Context Viewer (BCV). Query views are a description of the query output displayed as a table or in graphical format.

Process
  1. You create a new query view as follows:

    1. In the configuration center, choose Create Query View.

    2. Specify the query view ID, and the ID of the BCV query that the new query view is based on.

    3. Enter the Query View, Description, and Table ID or Chart ID in the respective fields.

Note that you can maintain these entries if you have saved the query view once before, and, in the case of Chart ID, if you have defined a chart.

  2. You define a query view structure as follows:

    1. On the Input Fields tab page, you specify the input field values of the query that serves as the basis of the query view. You can do this by choosing Start of the navigation path Load Fields Next navigation step Add Items End of the navigation path. Under Input Mode, you can define whether the user is allowed to display or change the values of the fields.

    2. On the Output Fields tab page, you specify the output field values of the query that serves as the basis of the query view. You can do this by choosing Start of the navigation path Load Fields Next navigation step Add Items End of the navigation path.

  3. You define query view charts.

On the Chart Views tab page, choose New, and specify the attributes of the chart. Here, you can specify the technology you want the system to use to display the data, and in the case of business graphics, the position, and layout of the chart, the color palette you want to use, whether or not you want to display the chart in three dimensions, and so on.

  4. You set up quick views.

On the Layout for Quick View tab page, you specify the way you want the query view to appear in the quick view. You can find quick views in the Overview accordion of the side panel.

  5. You assign the query view to a subject-based group

You can group query views in the side panel according to the subject-based groups they belong to. For example, you can create a group for all query views related to quality complaints, and assign the relevant query views to this group. On the Subject-Based View Assignments tab page, you can assign the query view to subject-based groups.

  6. Assign authorizations to the query view

On the Authorization tab page, you can assign authorizations (roles, access control lists, and user groups) to the query view.

More Information

Whenever a new access control list (ACL) is created, changed, or deleted for BCV objects, the system creates a change document if you have made the necessary settings in transaction ACO4. You can display the change document using transaction SE37 and executing function module CHANGEDOCUMENT_READ_HEADERS.
