BI Content Activation Workbench (CA-EPT-ACT)Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can use the BI Content Activation Workbench to activate and search the BI Content that is provided by SAP and grouped according to various business categories. The BI Content bundles provided contain all BI objects that are needed to analyze a particular business area.

As an alternative to the BI Content Activation Workbench, you can use the Data Warehousing Workbench (transaction RSOR) to search for and activate BI Content.

Note

The BI Content Activation Workbench only considers content objects that are part of a BI Content bundle.

You still have to activate objects that are not part of a BI Content bundle in the Data Warehousing Workbench (transaction RSOR).

Prerequisites

You have activated the business function Enhancements for Business Suite Analytics (BF_FND_ANALYTICS_TOOLS).

In order to be able to display and activate content in the BI Content Activation Workbench, the following authorizations are required for authorization object BSANL_ACWB, field ACTVT:

  • 03 Display

  • 63 Activate

You call the workbench in Customizing for Cross-Application Components under Start of the navigation path Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications Next navigation step Analytics Next navigation step BI Content Activation Workbench End of the navigation path. Alternatively, you can use transaction BSANLY_BI_ACTIVATION to call the Workbench.

Features

You can search for and activate BI Content, or simulation the activation.

Searching for BI Content

To search for BI Content, select one of the following business categories:

  • Business processes

  • Value scenarios

  • Business functions

  • Others

The system displays the BI Content bundles that are available for a business category in a list. If no BI Content bundles are available for a business category in the current system, the category is not displayed.

Activating BI Content

You can activate one or more BI Content bundles.

  1. In the Content Bundle Overview screen, choose one or more BI Content bundles and then Activate... to activate BI Content bundles.

    Note

If you select multiple BI Content bundles (multiple selection), warnings may be displayed during activation in exceptional cases. If this happens, activate the bundles individually.

  2. In the Activate Content Bundle screen, determine RFC connections and source systems, check the content to be activated, as well as the result of activation. Proceed as follows:

    1. Display BI Content Objects of Bundle (optional)

Choose Show Detail... to check which BI Content objects are contained in the selected bundle and need to be activated.

Objects that are activated in the local BW client are marked as Local.

Choose Check Consistency to check the availability of the listed BI Content in the assigned source systems and via the specified RFC connection.

    2. Define RFC Connection

Choose RFC Mapping... to specify RFC connections for the activation.

      Note

You must specify the RFC connections both for activation in the background (without a system logon) as well as for activation with a system logon (dialog).

Mark the RFC connection that you want to use for the activation of local BI Content objects as Local, if required.

A local RFC connection is necessary for the successful activation of a BI Content bundle if the bundle contains BI Content objects that are only executable in the local BW client (used for local reporting).

The local BW client does not have to be in the currently used system: For example, if you work with two CRM systems. the local BI Content objects may be in the system in which you are not currently working. Make sure you specify the RFC connection that allows access to the local BI Content objects as Local.

    3. Select RFC Destination

Select an RFC Destination for Content Objects (one of the destinations that you previously specified in RFC Mapping). The RFC connection refers to the BW client where the BI content is to be activated. This could be either a client in a hub BW system or a BW client in the source system/OLTP (for local reporting).

      Note

For the activation of local BI Content, only the RFC connection is used that you defined as Local (see above).

    4. Define Source Systems

Specify the source systems by choosing one of the following options:

      • No DataSource Replication if you do not want to assign a source system

      • Current Logon Client to assign the logical system currently in use (usability as source system is not checked during the activation run)

      • All Clients of Logon System to assign all clients of the current system

      • Selected Source Systems to enable manual assignment of source systems: Choose Select... to assign source systems.

        Note

As it is possible to run DataSource replication not only in the current client, but also in any other system client or even any other system, you can select various logical systems in the BI Content bundle.

    5. Copy or Match Already Active Objects

Choose how the system is to handle already activate BI Content objects during the activation run.

      You have the following options:

      • Copy

Already active objects are overwritten without a confirmation.

      • Match

In the event of data being overwritten, a confirmation is required.

      • Automatic (standard setting)

The system decides automatically the type of activation for each content object.

    6. Activate Content

      You have the following options:

      • Activation in Dialog

Choose Activate to activate the BI Content using the specified RFC Destination for Content Objects.

You can choose between the activation modes Activate or Activate with Transport.

      • Activate in Background

Choose Activate in Background to perform the activation without manual logon to the source system (a corresponding RFC connection needs to be specified), for example, with a background user such as ALEREMOTE.

        Note

If you have chosen the Match option for the treatment of already active BI Content objects, these objects will not be overwritten during activation in the background.

    7. Check Activation (optional)

Check the BI Content and the result of one or more previous activation runs.

Choose Show Log... to open a list of logs for completed activation runs.

Each entry provides information about whether a log is available for a particular activation run (logs can be deleted), the time and the status when the run was completed, which user started the run and which RFC connection was used.

Choose an entry for which a log exists and copy it to open the log.

    8. Delete Logs (optional)

You can delete activation run logs:

      1. Choose Start of the navigation path Extras Next navigation step Delete Logs End of the navigation path.

      2. Choose a log entry.

      3. Choose:

        • Yes if you want to delete the log and the status of the activation run

        • No if you want to delete the log while retaining the status information

Simulating or Checking BI Content Activation

You can use the Simulate Activation function if you want to check the following before activation:

  • RFC connections

  • Availability of BI Content objects that are contained in a bundle

  • Consistency of bundles in the event of multiple selection

The following steps are required for simulation, which are the same as for activation:

  1. In the Content Bundle Overview screen, choose one or more BI Content bundles and then Simulate Activation.

  2. Define the RFC connection on the Activate Content Bundle screen.

  3. Select the RFC connection.

  4. Define the source systems.

  5. Choose Simulate Activation.
