Use

You can also use the Start of the navigation path Assignment Next navigation step Assign objects/classes to a class End of the navigation path function to set up a class hierarchy by assigning several classes at once to one superior class.

The graphic below shows an example.

Procedure

To assign a class to another class, proceed as follows:

  1. In the classification system menu, choose Start of the navigation path Assignment  Next navigation step  Assign objects/classes to a class End of the navigation path .

  2. Enter a class name and class type. Choose Last class processed to choose on of the last ten classes you have worked. These can also be classes that were processed with different applications.

  3. If the class you enter is part of a class hierarchy, you can choose Start of the navigation path Environment Next navigation step Class hierarchy End of the navigation path to see the other classes in the hierarchy in tree form.

  4. Choose New assignments.

  5. You see a dialog box, asking whether you want to assign a class or a specific object type (such as material) to the class. Choose Classes.

  6. Enter the classes you want to assign to your class.

  7. These classes are assigned to the class you started with.

  8. If you want to assign values to characteristics position the cursor on a class. Double-click on the class or select Values for assignments .

  9. You see a list of the characteristics of all the classes to which the object is assigned. This list is based on the user settings you made in Start of the navigation path Extras  Next navigation step  User settings End of the navigation path , tab page Value assignment .

When you assign classes to a class, you can restrict the allowed values of the characteristics. This means that only values from the restricted allowed values are allowed when you classify objects in these classes.

  10. Save your assignment(s).
