Check for Same ClassificationLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

On the Basic data tab page of a class, you can define that a check is made when you classify objects, to see whether objects already classified have the same characteristic values. You have the following options:

  • Do not check

  • Warning message

  • Check with error

Features

The following restrictions apply to the check:

  • The system does not check for identical values until values are assigned to all characteristics of the class. If you do not assign values to all characteristics, no check for identical classifications is made.

  • Inherited characteristics are not checked.

  • The system does not check the values of reference characteristics.

  • The check is not a cross-class check – it only applies to the assignment to one class. The program does not check for identical assignments within a class hierarchy.

  • The warning or error message only appears when you classify an object. If the values assigned to two objects become identical subsequently, there is no warning or error message. For example, this could happen if two objects have different values for one characteristic only, and you delete this characteristic from the class.

  • The system only checks the values that are valid on the date you enter. If you use engineering change management to classify an object, the system does not check whether another object has the same values on a different date, so you do not see a warning or error message.
