Classifying a Material (Example)Locate this document in the navigation structure

The previous section tells you how to use the assignment functions in the classification menu to assign an object to a class. The following example describes how to create a material and classify this material from the object maintenance function.

To create and classify a material, proceed as follows:

  1. In the material master menu, choose Start of the navigation path Material Next navigation step Create general. End of the navigation path

  2. Enter a material number, an industry sector, and a material type. Confirm your entries.

  3. In the dialog box, select the views you want to create for the material. Select Classification and choose Continue .

  4. Enter a description and the required engineering data and confirm your entries.

  5. Enter one or more classes in which you want to classify the material.

  6. To assign values, place the cursor on the class in which you want to assign values and choose Values for assignments or double-click on the class.

  7. You see a list of characteristics. To see the allowed values for a characteristic, place the cursor on the characteristic and display the possible entries.

  8. Assign values to the characteristics, by selecting one or more values.

  9. Save the values or go to other views on the material.
