  Cost Object Settlement Unit

Definition

Special settlement unit (SU) that you can only create for each service charge key within an existing settlement unit, data exchange settlement unit , or master settlement unit .

By assigning the cost object settlement unit to a superordinate settlement unit or master settlement unit, you can:

Group together service charges for settlement

Have a detailed representation of service charges for account assignment

It is not possible to settle a cost object settlement unit separately. Instead, it must be settled on the superordinate settlement unit or master settlement unit, which also credits the cost object settlement unit.

Use

You can post directly to the cost object settlement unit using posting transactions. However, you can also assign a cost object settlement unit to a master settlement unit as one of its subordinate settlement units, but only if the master settlement unit has an apportionment rule that uses a percentage or an equivalence number.

Cost object settlement units cannot be created as independent settlement units, but the system stores them as such, and they are displayed in the tree display in the navigation area. You can remove the assignment of an existing cost object settlement unit to a superordinate settlement unit or master settlement unit, and reassign the cost object settlement unit to a different one.

Prerequisites

The Has Cost Object SUs indicator must first be set in the superordinate settlement unit or master settlement unit. This activates the Cost Object tab on which you can then create the cost object settlement unit.

Example

Suppose you want to settle your total heating costs in one settlement unit called heating costs , but you also want to be able to see a breakdown of the individual costs. The individual costs consist of:

Natural gas costs

Maintenance

20% of common electricity

Chimney cleaning

You create the settlement unit heating costs and select the Has Cost Object SUs indicator.

On the Cost Object tab, you create a settlement unit for each service charge key (such as the costs for chimney cleaning) and give it a name. The system recognizes that this settlement unit is a cost object settlement unit, and displays it as such in the RE Navigator in the tree display of the settlement unit it is assigned to.The option rate method is inherited, but can still be changed.

You can remove the cost object settlement units on the same tab. However, this does not delete them. They are still displayed in the tree display and you can assign them to another settlement unit or master settlement unit.
