The Geometry EditorLocate this document in the navigation structure

The easy to use Geo Editor allows you to edit geometries of an existing SAP business object while simultaneously displaying multiple support layers. It is possible to add, delete and modify geometries in the Geo Editor for a valid selected context, a single object at a time.

Launching the Editor

The Geo Editor is launched using a link that is different from the Geo Explorer. Unlike the Geo Explorer which allows you to view and work with multiple objects at a time, the Geo Editor allows you to work with a single object at any given time. This is because you can only edit a single object at a time.

Searching for an Object

When you first launch the Geo Editor, you see a blank screen with the Find Object dropdown list and the Search bar. This corresponds to the logic that you would first need to find an existing object before you can edit it.

Once you have chosen an object type from the dropdown list, you have the option of using specific strings or a wildcard search to display a list of all the geometries for that specific object type. Choosing a specific object from the list navigates to the selected object's geometry on the map.

Choosing or Changing a Geometry Context

An object is only visible if the correct geometry context has been selected for an object. For example, when you choose the object Business Partner - Person and the geometry context is set to Headquarter, you don't see the object on the map. This is because the business partner doesn't exist in that specific geometry context. In this situation, check the geometry context and try again.

You can change the geometry for a context of an object by enabling the Edit button.

Adding or Deleting Geometry

Select an object and enable the Edit mode to delete or add another point, line or polygon on the map. The available geometry types for editing will depend on the Customizing of the business layer of the geo object. The geometry that is added will have the same icon and geometry context as the selected object. It is possible to add multiple geometries for the same object in different geometry contexts. Geometries may also be copied from the supporting reference layers and business layers configured for the geo object.

Modifying Existing Geometry

Select an object and enable the Edit mode to modify the geometry of that object. You need to ensure that the geometry context is correctly selected to allow modification. Modifying a geometry in the incorrect context is not permitted. All the changes made to the geometry are saved in the back end system.

Viewing Objects on Multiple Layers

While editing a geometry, you have the option to enable multiple reference and business layers. This allows you to view the objects in a business context to simplify your tasks.

For example, a utility company needs to move an electric pole. Switching on the business layers that contain the geometries for transmission lines and other poles will help them in planning the move efficiently and without posing a hazard to the existing assets.
