You use this function to access Business Context Viewer (BCV) from a demilitarized zone (DMZ) system. DMZ is a physical or logical subnetwork that exists between two networks to allow connections between the networks without allowing unauthorized access to the systems located within the networks.
You can use a DMZ system to access BCV from an SAP Product Lifecycle Management (SAP PLM) system by opening the side panel.
You can use BCV in a DMZ system only to access query views, quick views, and dashboards, which can be displayed and executed by an Internet user, for example through the SAP NetWeaver Portal. If you access BCV from a DMZ system, you cannot perform configuration activities, for example through the BCV configuration center or Customizing that a user with the role BCV Administrator can access. This means that BCV configuration is restricted in the DMZ system by assigning appropriate authorizations to external users.
To access BCV from a DMZ system, you must have the following authorizations assigned to you:
In the DMZ system a role to access the application hosting BCV (for example, the role SAP_PLMWUI_DISCRETE_MENU for PLM material display)
In the back-end system the role SAP_BCV_EXTERNAL_USER to access BCV objects, such as the side panel.
The role SAP_PLMWUI_RFC_DMZ_USER to support the trusted RFC connection needed for the communication between the DMZ and back-end systems.
You can use BCV from a DMZ system in the following system setup:
You use this setup to enable Internet-based collaboration. To ensure network security, a remote user works in a system which contains a nearly empty BCV system. This system is called a DMZ system and does not contain any BCV data at all. The BCV data is located in a separate system, called the back-end system, which is separated from the DMZ system by a firewall. The back-end system can be accessed by local users and the DMZ system, but not directly from the Internet. If you use BCV from a DMZ system, the BCV UI runs in the DMZ system and the BCV logic and data access are executed in the back-end system. The DMZ and the back-end system contain the same BCV source code. However, because the user interface is executed in the DMZ system, some basic configuration data of Floor Plan Manager and Page Builder and Launchpad configuration must exist also in the DMZ system.
The system administrator of the back-end system defines the DMZ system in Customizing, under
